5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guidance on using my Garmin 405
This book is pretty technical and there were a few parts I will have to go back and re-read, however it provides excellent insight on how to use the results from your Garmin (or Polar or whatever brand speed-HRM-distance device you use). I knew there had to be a way to use the data output to optimize training, I just figured it was only something the professionals would...

3.0 out of 5 stars very technical; too many details
I am a dedicated runner and have a lot of running books. This one is rather technical, somewhat like the Jack Daniels "Running Formula" book. However it has sometimes -in my opinion- too much info which is not always useful. Not "to the point" and therefore not an easy to understand guide about running with the newest and advanced GPS equipment. Did not finish...

This book is pretty technical and there were a few parts I will have to go back and re-read, however it provides excellent insight on how to use the results from your Garmin (or Polar or whatever brand speed-HRM-distance device you use). I knew there had to be a way to use the data output to optimize training, I just figured it was only something the professionals would have time or understanding to do.

Fitzgerald goes into great depth to explain how to calculate certain metrics, what they mean and how to use them to ascertain your strengths, weaknesses and where you are in your training. There seems to be quite a bit of promotion of the TrainingPeaks WKO+ software in the book, but after downloading the trial version and importing my last and current training cycles, the frequent references seem warranted.

This is a good book for a self-coached runner with a Garmin 405, or an equivalent, looking to understand and boost their performance.
