Nothing New,

I was expecting more in-depth information on running injuries, but this booked contained less information than a lot of other general running books.
For example this morning I referenced the book on hamstring injuries, and the only information they had on hamstrings was on stretching. Very disappointed in the content.

I was a relatively new runner when I purchased this book. The information in this book helped me to fix some pains in my legs. It turns out I was doing too much downhill running. An experienced runner would know that this is a bad idea, but how was I suppose to know at the time? Common things like "don't increase speed and distance in the same day" are in this book. I can understand the complaints of the other people who say this book is nothing new; you are right, it isn't! But it helps newbies understand the things that experienced runners know as "common sense". If you are a new runner then you need this book.

I am newer to the sport of running and have taken it by storm! In fact, so much so, that I was overtraining and found myself with a stress fracture. While being "laid up" I decided to read up on injuries that occur while running and how to prevent them in the future. Man, I wish I had read this book months ago. I am sure I would have prevented this stress fracture had I read the book. It's a great overview of various injuries that can occur, but more so it is a practical guide on how to train so that you never experience an injury.

My second foray into the Runner's World series on running was another good yet overly basic, and generalized plan to running effectively without injury over the long term. It begs the question: do we really need another one of these types of guides? The author touches briefly on some special populations such as youth and women. She profiles a number of common running injuries and the usual course of treatment. There are also a number of basic exercise and stretching routines with illustrations to benefit runners. Finally, the importance of choosing the right shoe and staying open to the possible need to change shoe type over time is stressed abundantly throughout the book. This is really a book for beginner runners. Clearly, a seasoned runner should not find a thing in this book that has not already been realized. Those looking for more in depth information on running injuries should look elsewhere.

I am pretty disappointed with this. It's mostly common sense, and if you're not a total newbie, you could have written it yourself.
