5.0 out of 5 stars This is the album that started me listening to JAZZ in 1960., March 18, 1999
This review is from: Runnin Wild (Audio CD)
I have been a JAZZ fan since 1960 and this is the album that started it all. If you like STARDUST it is worth the money right there. I feel Charlie Ventura never got the acclaim he deserved. Buy this and enjoy the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare treat: the great guitarist Billy Bean, August 14, 2003
By
This review is from: Runnin Wild (Audio CD)
This mid-1950's recording includes what was likely the touring quartet for Charlie Ventura at the time that made a name, at least among his peers, for the young Philadelphia guitar genius, Billy Bean. Bean weaves a boppish filigree around these swing and classic jazz warhorses that provides hints of his inventiveness and virtuosity. If you're interested, more of Bean's playing can be found on the excellent "The Trio" Riverside/Fantasy CD. Also: the English StringJazz CD's of Bean/Pisano (late 1950's LA rehearsal tapes, mostly two guitars; amateur recordings by his musical partner, guitarist John Pisano).

I bought the original Topps record in 1956. The reproduction on the CD is great. I am going to buy some more of Ventura.
