Book Description

June 8, 2007
Are you stuck in a hamster wheel? Hamster-wheel relationships keep us running in circles . . . and going nowhere. An alcoholic spouse. An emotionally abusive parent. A child that gambles. These are the kinds of relationships that can trap us in cycles of dysfunctional behavior. Sometimes our beliefs about God are part of what keeps us stuck. There are times that God calls us to suffer. And there are times that God calls us to set aside our fears and idolatry so that we can follow him alone. This book is about God's invitations to you right in the midst of your difficult relationship. God invites you to find freedom in security in him. Are you in a situation that feels hopeless and unchangeable? Kim Engelmann has been there in her own life. Through God's love, she found her way out. In this book she draws on her own experiences as well as the experiences of others she has counseled as a pastor. This book can help you find hope again. Are you ready to get off the wheel?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"With a tremendous mind and the pen of an artist, [Kim Engelmann] can portray deep truths about God and the soul in ways that are compelling and unforgettable. For the past three and a half years I have gotten to work alongside her and listen and learn from her, and now you do too.

"So you have received a gift. Much of the secret of life is learning to get off the hamster wheel of fruitless suffering while remaining on the Potter's wheel. Kim will help you learn the difference. Read on." (From the foreword by John Ortberg, author of God Is Closer Than You Think )

EXCELLENT book. Helpful in so many of life's situations. We confuse the hamster wheel of expending energy but going nowhere with the Potter's wheet that transforms lives. YEARS can be saved!!!! I have recommended this book and gifted this book many times and will continue to do so. While this book focuses on relationships it is also useful in dealing with our relationship with ourselves! At least it was helpful for me. (I met the author at a Christians for Biblical Equality conference in Denver. I did not realize she was the author when we visited, but found out later. In person and on the page her words carry weight and are worth consideration.)

This book confirmed and clarified my beliefs. Wish I would have read it 25 years ago.
