More About the Author

Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded. I've waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys.

Then there was this book...

Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn't really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn't a big reader- okay, I didn't read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.

I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days.

I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!).

Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head.I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born.

The voices in my head are still talking, so I'm still writing.

***I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book has some great steam, but I didn't love it.
Mostly, because I felt Kayla was too impulsive. Almost recklessly so--and it felt (to me) to be without cause.
Her long-time boyfriend (3+ years) proposes and she...leaves? Takes a job hours away and moves from their apartment without telling him? Sorry. That is pretty unforgivable. And that's how the book opened.
Then, she falls in LOVE within three days with a stranger--who happens to be her boss. It's all too fast. Too much to accept.
Also, she's a self-proclaimed reformed slut...not admirable. I don't care if she is a 'slut' or was one. I prefer characters who 'own their crap'. Nobody's perfect, but Kayla talked too much/ran too much for me to respect her as a character.

The plot behind Kayla's ex's revenge seemed too forced. I could imagine his desire to invoke jealousy, but the blackmail seemed way over the top.

Two other characters tell this story: Miles and Merrick. Miles is the uber-suave millionaire boss, and Merrick is the sexy, dirt-bike riding barkeep. I'm glad that the love triangle didn't develop, but I struggled with the way these men felt they has some right to 'protect' a virtual stranger. Again, it made Kayla seem weak and unable to stand on her own feet.

For a romance to resonate with me I'm looking for humorous banter, partner equality, and steam. I really felt this suffered too much melodrama and not enough actual drama. If Kayla had acted like an adult from the start she wouldn't have hurt her fiance and created the messy bed she had to lay in. Beside that, she felt atrociously naive and starry-eyed for a supposed career-minded woman.

Have you ever needed a fresh start or a do-over? Just wanted to pick up and leave and go where no one knew who you were in your last town or anything about your past??? I think at some point we could all probably say yes to that question.

That is exactly what Kayla Reynolds decides to do! She moves to the Big Apple after landing a job with ETV. Although being an assistant to a CEO is not her dream job it does get her one step closer to where she wants to be which is an entertainment news anchorwoman. She works for Connie which reminded me of Meryl Streep's character on The Devil Wears Prada. You question why Connie is so intimidating. Everyone in the office feels that way about Connie. She has excellent work ethics but could it be something deeper???

Kayla has an encounter with an extremely attractive man in the elevator on her first day. Her best friend warns her though to stay away from those types of people. They are always the ones with secrets. I think most of us have read enough romance novels that we know what 'those types of people are'! :) There is just something about this stranger that she is drawn to though. He ends up being Miles Blackwell, one of the CEO's of the company. My first thought.... NOT GOOD! Can you date within the office?? I can definitely feel the chemistry between the two.

The people at ETV go out on Tuesday's for what they call `Tipsy Tuesday' to a local bar and there Kayla meets Merrick. He is the owner/eye-candy bartender that everyone loves to look at. There is also a connection between Kayla and Merrick.

Without giving anything away, there are deep, emotional relationships built along with strong rooted friendships. Connections from the past come back with the potential to destroy trust and part of those relationships.

Kayla Reynolds decides a fiancé isn't in her future plans. The day after her boyfriend proposes, Kayla leaves everything behind to head to New York City. She always dreamed of having a career in the entertainment field. A twist of fate lands a job offer in Kayla's lap that she cannot resist.

After a three year relationship to Trevor, Kayla leaves him without a `real' breakup. She decides to write him a letter. Yes - I said she broke up with her new fiancé in a letter!! This certainly leaves you wondering if Kayla has lost her mind. After all, who does that? Then you read more into the story........

While setting up her new life, Kayla decides she wants to leave her personal life on hold and focus on her career. That was until Miles Blackwell waked into the elevator with her at ETV. This sexy, hot specimen was charming - to say the least. After Miles constant flirting turns into a desire to date her - Kayla finds herself unable to turn away.

Will they find their happily ever after?? Not so quick!! In an unusual turn of events - Kayla finds herself crushed from a crazy turn of events (one you will not see coming). Turning to Merrick - the owner of a local pub - for comfort....Kayla finds herself torn between her heart and her head.

I really enjoyed this book Kayla's story has always interested me and watching her grow and change through this book was amazingly wonderful. I was proud of her for going after her dream and just doing what she needed to for her. Miles is the sexiest man alive and though I understand Kayla's attraction to him I am Team Merrick :) I mean you can resist a tattooed bartender who always races bikes?!? Not this girl that is for sure. :) I read this story in one day. I wanted to find out all of Kayla's story right then, I just couldn't wait, and I have revisited this story many times since then. You will adore Kayla too and whether you fall for Miles or Merrick you will still fall for one amazing guy. So go add this book to your TBR pile now!!!
