4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of good info that you don't find in other books, but the formatting is atrocious, January 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Running QuickBooks 2009 Premier Editions: The Only Definitive Guide to the Premier Editions (Paperback)
When I had a laundry list of questions about how to handle different accounting issues in Quickbooks (customer deposits, prepaid expenses, etc) I went to Barnes and Noble and grabbed the entire library of Quickbooks manuals -- For Dummies, The Official Guide, etc. -- and sat down with them one at a time to see what answers they could offer.

Running Quickbooks was the only one that came close to offering real, hands-on advice about how to approach some of the trickier accounting tasks that I've faced during my time as a bookkeeper. The book is not for novices, but is a great resource for intermediate to advanced users.

The major gripe that I have with this book is how terrible the formatting is. Honestly, it looks like it was put together with an Commodore 64. Obviously bad font choices, an index that is about as impossible to read as any I've ever seen and just an overall lack of artistry to the page layout.

Now I know that accountants and number crunchers aren't known for their aesthetics but I've got a message to CPA911: come on guys -- it makes a difference. Honestly, you would sell more books if these were easier visually on the eyes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inventory, October 10, 2009

I hoped that this would help me get my inventory in order. This book is good for a small business but me (contractor edition), it does not do what I need. I need inventory and so what does this book tell me? Go buy a 3rd party inventory control.
