I sort of liked this book but the was not enough detail , like win they when there first game you don't know how much they won by.
when a line backer backer breaks luke's leg which wasn't good because the story went down hill from there.

conflict was one of the most vivid because they were trying to win state chapion, climax was when they won three...

3.0 out of 5 stars Running Scared: A Suprising Victory, October 21, 2004
By
This review is from: Running Scared (Hardcover)
While the book was not on the caliber of "A Painted House", or "Schindler's List", that was not the intention of Thomas J. Dygard while writing this story. It was merely written to show that even in the face of adversity, you can overcome obstacles to reach the highest pinnacle.
In Larry Hudson's case, his fear of being tackled playing football was what he had to overcome. After being chastised by his teammates for getting special treatment because of his fears, Larry Hudson proved his nay Sayers wrong by becoming a complete Quarterback in a crucial game situation.
What I liked about this book was that Dygard built up suspense very well in the game situations. I found that when I was reading about the game, my heart was pumping.
The reason why I gave the book three stars instead of five was because it did not contain enough literary elements to differentiate itself from other cookie cut-out teenager- geared sports stories. While the setting was clearly fleshed out, and imagining what is happening as you read the book is easily accomplished, few occurrences of similes, metaphors, or personification stick out in my mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fighting fear and succeeding!, March 13, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Running Scared (Hardcover)
This book Running Scared is a very exciting book. Larry Hudson is a senior at Marlin State College and is afraid to play football because of getting hurt. Towards the end of the season he wants to quit, but is afraid of what people will call him. I liked the way Larry didn`t quit and got up his strength and did what noone ever thought he would do..... I also like the way Thomas J. Dygard makes it seem like your`re there. This book is aewesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Running Scared, February 28, 2001
By
John Galles (Kingsman, Wa USA) - See all my reviews
Running Scared by james Dygard s an excellent book. The title its self is very ironic. The title makes us think a player is runnign cause hes scared, but in reality hes running from his fear, getting hurt. This irony also ties in with the theme of the book, which is individual control of destiny. Larry Hudson had control of his destiny when he choose to saty with the team and face his fears rather than quitting and running from his fears.
