Book Description

Running Strong & Injury-Free sheds some much needed light on the subject of injury prevention for athletes of all ages and abilities. Janet takes a common-sense approach to the subject and the numerous detailed photographs depicting various stretching and strength training exercises are a big help. It is almost as if she is guiding you through the exercise in person. Her underlying philosophy is that an educated athlete is not only less likely to sustain an injury, but is better equipped to properly rehabilitate and return to training. Running Strong & Injury-Free goes a long way toward educating athletes about the underlying factors that may contribute to many common injuries. Her background in rehabilitation is evident as she takes a holistic approach to injury prevention, covering flexibility, strength, biomechanics and common training errors. This book is a must-read for any athlete who wants to train for the “long run”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fitness for everyone March 7, 2003
Format:Paperback
I am a 61-year old woman who walks for fitness. In reading this book I found lots of information to enable me to become more flexible and able to walk without pain. I suffer from Plantar Fasciitis and found the exercises and advice in this book to be most helpful in dealing with the problem. There is also invaluable help and advice for buying the correct shoes for walking as well as running.
I love walking and with the information supplied in this book am better equiped to wisely choose shoes and with proper exercise and preparation have been walking pain free.
I highly recommend this book for anyone of any age who is interested in building strength and flexibility. The pictures and descriptions of exercises are easy to understand, clear and helpful....in other words, "Not just for Runners".

5.0 out of 5 stars proven to work - a must read for everyone April 19, 2005
Format:Paperback
I had the privilege of not only reading this book, but also listening to Janet speak and then receiving a full assessment from her (including gait, flexibility, training analysis). She knows her stuff! I have been mostly injury free for the past year since meeting Janet. I bounce back quicker from minor injuries and generally feel better and stronger when I run. Janet's flexibility, strength, and training knowledge are straight forward, easy to understand and follow, and are useful in every day life, not just in running. As we age, I think there's nothing more important than maintaining our mobility and the exercises in this book definitely help with that! I highly recommend to anyone, not just runners, but runners should definitely read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A runner's must read August 23, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is chock-full of well-presented and accurate information for beginner and long-time runners, with specific strengthening exercises to help you run stronger and injury free -- just like the title promises! It not only provides an exercise regime, but it also gives the right amount of information to help educate you about why a broad range of injuries occur, thus helping avoid injury-causing mistakes and helping you mend well when injuries occur. Very worthwhile.
