4.0 out of 5 stars Story #1 Jace and Skylar; Story #2 Rafe and Lani, June 12, 2008
This review is from: Running Wild (Paperback)
Unleashed by Cathryn Fox:

Jace is a special agent working for a paranormal investigative group and he is on the hunt for a murdering werewolf. When his captain orders Jace to work with the beautiful psychic, Skylar, Jace is not pleased. The last thing he needs is a psychic figuring out the secret he has kept hidden for over 30 years...he is half werewolf, that's why he is so good at tracking other werewolves.
Skylar has one purpose, to make sure all werewolves are caught. Her parents were brutally murdered by werewolves and she has used her psychic powers since then to help in any way she can to eradicate the creatures.
As Jace and Skylar work undercover together they are sent to a pleasure resort, where sexual fantasies are realized and played out, to locate the elusive werewolf (Lucas) and then catch him in the act of murder when the full moon comes. As Jace and Skylar keep dibs on Lucas the sexual allure of the resort calls to their innermost desires. It doesn't take either of them long to realize they want more than just sex, they want love. But Jace is afraid to get involved, he fears the full moon and what might happen to his loved ones when he changes. Skylar does not believe that any man can accept her psychic abilities, so she tends to distance herself from men before they do the same to her.
Can Jace keep the fact that he is a werewolf hidden from Skylar, even during the sexual encounters when the beast within him threatens to reveal itself? What will happen when Skylar's psychic abilities reveal another werewolf in their midst? Or will the allure of the moon destroy what they long for?

This story was short but intense with a decent story line built in. The story takes place at a pleasure resort so expect a little bit of voyeurism involved, just enough to keep the pages sizzling. The characters ultimately stayed true to each other. I would give this story 4 stars.

Lion in the Shadows by Delilah Devlin:

Lani works with the volunteer fire department as a cave rescuer and Rafe is the new sheriff in town. Lani recently broke off her relationship with Rafe and he is not pleased. Lani does not want to fall in love. After seeing the way her father abused her mother she doesn't want to become involved with a man because of the fear that he will turn abusive.
When a boy is killed in a nearby cave Lani and Rafe encounter each other again after almost a month of complete seperation. Lani, while trying to keep an emotional distance, continues with her job but when she is lowered into the cave she sees the unbelievable. In what was once a completely closed cavern (until a recent explosion caused the opening) she spots a lion beside the dead boys body. She immediately leaves the cave and allows Rafe to comfort her as she explains what she saw. When a team goes back into the cave the boys body is still there but the lion has vanished. After comforting Lani, Rafe follows her to her house and an intensely hot episode takes place in her living room. Then strange things start to happen. The lion shows up at Lani's house several times and suddenly Rafe is dreaming he is the lion. In his dreams he learns the spirit of the lion and an indian warrior merged years ago, and the warrior wants Lani for his own. When Rafe tries to protect Lani the indian's spirit enters his body and the fight for dominance with Rafe begins. How will Lani react when she finds out Rafe is being possessed? Will Rafe be able to keep the indian in his spirit from touching the woman he has come to love? Or will the indian dominate the body he has encountered?

This story was not what I expected but it was intriguing, I was expecting a werewolf story. There was a lot of twists and turns to this short story that kept the pages turning and the lust between Lani and Rafe was intense. I would give this story 4 stars.

****Both stories were interesting but I found that the erotica became too much. I like a good erotic romance but these stories would become way too graphic, the language especially would get a little out of hand (I like some good dirty talking but too much just ruins the moment), in some instances but luckily the stories did not focus too much on that so it did not alter my overall rating too much. I would recommend this book for erotica fans.
