Dark Places,
By
This review is from: Runway RunAway: A Backstage Pass to Fashion, Romance & Rock 'n Roll (Paperback)
If you are going to buy this book forget who wrote it and who is in it. Do not go into reading this book feeling one way or the other about it. Just read it for what it is. As someone who has battled with alcohol and made several suicide attempts in the past I found sections of this book hitting me hard. It seemed all too familiar. I understood what the author was trying to get across to the reader and it is understandable if some miss the point about trying to find your way in what is a very dark place. Much can be said and argued about her including so much of her life with the late Steve Clark or how little she included about her life in the here and now. I will admit that I enjoyed reading this book and I do give Ms. Shellist credit for sharing her turbulent life with the rest of us. If you're going to read this book just make sure you leave your preconceived notions at the door.

Excellent Read!!,

I originally bought this book because Lorelei was Steve Clark's (of Def Leppard) girlfriend. Once I got the book though, I became more interested in Lorelei as a person and what she had been thru as a model herself. From her growing up a teen runaway to her finally taking the modelling world by storm, and her rocky relationship with Steve Clark, I thought this book was very informative and I'm really glad I bought it. Lorelei Shellist had a rough beginning but I'm glad to see that she has gotten her life together and I'm even more glad that she was there to help Steve in his daily struggles against his addictions. Thank you, Lorelei, for being an amazing human being.

Loved the book!,

I am a huge Def leppard fan which is the reason I bought this book. The author tells all about her life as a high fashion jet settting model who has relationships with rock stars like Don Henley and Steve Clark. She begins her journey at a very young age and always stays very independent and true to herself. She paints a picture of Steve as a shy gifted artist who never understood his own talent and an addiction problem that eventually cost him his life. The book is full of pictures that give a great behind the scenes look at the band. I only wish there was a little more about the other band members and their girfriends but I understand and respect Miss Shellist's desire to protect their privacy.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. I remember the tragic story of Lorelei and Steve Clark of Def Leppard and wanted to know more about Lorelei, the survivor. This book purports to be Ms. Shellist's life story, but it focuses only on her colorful past. Since Steve's death, she has done some admirable things, such as working with at-risk teens and young models trying to break into the business. Unfortunately, none of that is mentioned in the book. She focuses primarily on her tragic relationship with Steve which, I realize, was a large and defining part of her life but certainly not the only part and definitely not the most recent. She does seem to have a remarkable recall, right down to the exact words spoken, even though her memories are at least 15-25 years old. Amazing! I'm not sure my memory is that good, if you catch my drift. I guess what I'm trying to say is that an author who is writing books to make money sometimes takes "liberties" with the facts to make it more interesting. Sure, it's entertaining; however, a careful read of the book makes her sound like a saint throughout the whole "Steve" ordeal, while poor Steve is made out to be a disturbed drunk who was too far gone to be helped. There are two sides to every story, and unfortunately, only one side can be written here.
She mentions that her reason for writing the book is to finally heal and reflect. Why write it now, especially since Steve has been gone for almost 20 years now? It has, however, catapulted her into the limelight, living off of Steve's memory. The book itself is not much more than tabloid fodder, and I came away feeling sorry for Lorelei as it seems that she has in fact not really moved on after all these years.

I'm a huge Def Leppard fan and initially purchased this book to learn more about the fiance of Lorelei, the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard. I was pleasantly surprised! This book is more of a memoir of Lorelei's life as a runaway teenager clawing her way up to become a top model all the while rubbing elbows with some of the most famous people of the 70's and 80's. She met and fell in love with Steve Clark in 1983 and it tells of their love affair as well as the struggles of addiction and ultimately the death of the love of her life. I couldn't put this book down once I started! At times it was very painful. But in the end Lorelei comes out of it all as a strong determined woman. What an inspiration!

I have been a Def Leppard fan for over 20 years and the main reason that I bought this book was mainly to read about her life with Steve Clark but after I got the book and started reading it, I realized there was so much more to this book than just about Steve. This is one of the best books that I have read in a longtime. Once I started reading I could not put it down and finished it in less than 1 day. I would recommend this book to anyone!!!!

The book was a page turner but honestly, I came out of it questioning the author's motive for writing the book. I also felt sorry for Steve Clark's family in that his dirty laundry has now been thrown out there for all the world to see. I really felt like this book was tabloid fodder, and not much about helping people with addictions. There are, however, some great pictures in the book.

I loved this book. It felt as though I was on the rollar coaster of emotions with the author, especially in the first chapter "Wonderland". It provided insight into what happened with Steve Clark. I really felt for Ms. Shellist.
