5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Lupin Film, October 18, 2003

This review is from: Rupan III - The Fuma Conspiracy (DVD)
Of all the Lupin movies out right now this is the second best, behind The Castle of Cagliostro. AnimEigo calls our favorite thief "Rupan" because back when the film was licensed, there were some legal issues with using the name "Lupin" and decided to use the new name as an alternative to get it licensed.

The humor has the same lighthearted humor as Cagliostro and the action is also satisfying. All the characters flow well with the story well without feeling forced into it or ignored. The only problem with this DVD is its english dub. This has the same 1994 dub given to it, which is just awful. I highly recommend watching it with subtitles instead.

An greatt addition to anyone's anime library.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is one of, if not the best, Rupan (Lupin) III movies there is, April 29, 2006
This review is from: Rupan III - The Fuma Conspiracy (DVD)
I have always been a big fan of Lupin III, ever since my friend persuaded me to purchase Castle Cagliostro I have been horribly addicted. While some of the new ones made by Funimation sucked rather royally, but don't bother grouping this in with those. This is a Anime masterpiece. If you are a fan of some of the older Lupin, then you must buy this, hands down. If you are a big fan of other Anime such as Dragon Ball Z, then you should buy this. It won't have the six episode fight scenes like you are used to, but it will be enjoyable. If you are the sort of person who has never watched anime, then I suggest you start with a few of the Disney introduced Miyazaki anime first, maybe, but this would also be a good first anime movie. If you are in the latter boat, I suggest you start with Fuma Conspiracy, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro, Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle. Anyway you go about it, this is one of the best bits of anime you could own, so I suggest buying it.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Lupin Movies, May 26, 2005

This review is from: Rupan III - The Fuma Conspiracy (DVD)
As I watched `The Fuma Conspiracy' something in the back of my mind told me there was something different about this particular Lupin III movie and it wasn't just that Lupin was being called Rupan. It finally dawned on me that, more than any other Lupin movie I'd seen, Fuma was aimed towards children. The animation is some of the best ever for Lupin although the characters are drawn a bit squattier and more frantic than normal. Our crew of four including Lupin (Rupan), Jigan, Goemon and Fujiko spend a lot of time running from place to place at top speed. Lupin's voice is annoyingly high pitched while Fujiko has a scratchy voice that sounded rather sexy in my opinion. This particular adventure is almost completely blood free and I don't remember any curse words. Unlike other movies the four main characters act as a cohesive team and Lupin's libido is generally kept in check.

The story is pretty straightforward. On the day of Goemon's wedding the event is broken up by some heavily muscled ninjas who kidnap his bride and demand some family heirloom that just happens to contain a map to an enormous fortune. Of course `treasure' is the magic word and Lupin decides to make it his own. Inspector Zenegada shows up, chases occur, villains interfere, and various things explode. It's all boilerplate Lupin but it's still well done. Despite being nearly two decades old Fuma still looks better than many of the more resent fare and I would recommend it for Lupin fans and Anime fans in general.
