Editorial Reviews

Review

"Kyrja masterfully weaves the basic tenets central to many Pagan traditions throughout her stories; while the underlying themes advocate personal responsibility, appreciating the moment at hand, respect for life and the environment, and gratefulness for the gifts the Goddess bestows.  A splendid book for old and young alike." ~ Lady Willow    Witches and Pagan Magazine

"When reading it earlier today, I was reminded anew of that sense of wonder that we have all felt when we started down this road into the Craft. Rupert's Tales (as it is called) also does a wondrous job of describing the sacredness of nature and that deity is everywhere." ~ PaganDad Patrick McCleary

"It's not often that I encounter a book that not only does a great job of teaching kids about the Wheel of the Year, but that also reminds me of the reasons I follow a Pagan path in the first place."  ~ Patti Wigington  Pagan/Wiccan Guide at About.com

"Rupert's Tales is done in rhyme, in that sing-song rhythm that is just begging to be read aloud."  ~ Mrs. B, Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom

"This 64-page book comes from the hands of expert storytellers." ~ Luna Lark, Quail Bell Magazine

From the Author

It is my hope parents will read these stories aloud to their children at each of the sabbats each year, so they become integrated as a part of their child's upbringing, allowing their understanding of our ways and traditions to grow and evolve as they encounter Rupert throughout the Wheel of the Year each year.

These tales are also an excellent starting point for adults who are unfamiliar with what it may mean to "be Pagan."

I just finished reading the best book for teaching the Sabbats to younger children. It is written by a good friend of mine Kyrja and published through Schiffer Books. This book covers from Beltane to Mabon, with the next one due out some time soon. And it introduces the concepts behind the Sabbats in rhyming couplets from the viewpoint of a little rabbit called Rupert.

When reading it earlier today, I was reminded anew of that sense of wonder that we have all felt when we started down this road into the Craft. Rupert's Tales (as it is called) also does a wondrous job of describing the sacredness of nature and that deity is everywhere.

And this doesn't even cover the beautiful illustrations by Tonia Bennington Osborn. They do so much to add to the story and to charm of this book.

So if you are looking for quality books to teach your children about the Sabbats. Me and my youngest daughter highly recommend this book. If you have read it or do read it, be sure to come back and comment or send me an email, and let me know what you think.

And for future updates from the world of Rupert, since I don't think that two books is all that we can expect, be sure to check out Rupert's page on Facebook. And for a whole variety of links, including a CafePress store and more information, check out the webpage for our friend Rupert.

Rupert's Tales is a delightful insight into the history and traditions of 4 of the eight Pagan Sabbats. This book covers the two Summer Sabbats (Beltane and Litha, or MidSummer) and two of the three Harvest Sabbats (Lammas and Mabon). The stories are told from the perspective of an inquisitive rabbit named Rupert who wants to know what the humans are doing and why. It is filled with beautiful imagery and delightful prose. These tales are a wonderful addition to the magickal library of any Pagan with small children or those that simply want to enjoy a wonderful way of discoverying the Sabbats.

When we oder it we bought an extra copy of the book for our grandson, we are waiting till next payday to buy a few more as gifts for others we know who have our belief. We can not wait for the author to come out with more works.
The art work with the book is great we could not believe the pictures that went with the stories they are a great example of the story.

My young son, Taylor, loves Rupert! We first learned of these marvelous tales directly from the author. She and her husband were doing a children's storytime book reading that we attended. When we brought the book home, the characters came to life just as they did when we were there in person. How magical!
As a pagan/Wiccan family, it's often hard for us to decide what is age appropriate for a 4 year old. The most important thing is for my son to feel special, have his heart warmed, and let his imagination soar when reading books. I am also beginning to teach my son the basics of the wonderous spiritual world of Wicca.
Things like compassion for all life, responsibility to mother nature, and feeling a part of the rhythms of the planet are some of the basis of paganism and Wicca. Tales of Rupert delivers this and more!
Beautifully written and illustrated, the customs of the traditional Wheel of the Year are explained simply for a child. When reading, I often find us pausing to talk about our own family traditions and answering my son's questions.
I highly recommend Tales of Rupert!
It is a safe choice for pagan/Wiccan parents and families.
I trust that any Tales of Rupert book we buy will be appropriate for my child and spark wonder and imagination within him.
With these worthy books, we have the opportunity to read together, bond together, and talk easily about our spiritual traditions.
I hope you love Rupert as much as we do!

I love this book! The artwork is child friendly, the stories are engaging and Rupert is adorable! When the Goddess and God do make an apearence, they do not look like they came from Fantasy Art, but are still attractive and modest in dress and apperance. That has been my problem with most childrens literature, they do not need to use fantasy art to represent the Divine Couple. Although the Beltane story was a bit long for my 5 year old daughter, the content is age appropriate. Highly recommend this for any pagan family. I just ordered the second book and hope to include these stories into my family coven soon. Blessed Be.

This book is a wonderful choice for both Pagan's who want a good book for their children, a fun read for Pagan's of any age, and those of other religions who would like to learn about the major holidays of Wicca. Its a fun ryming read and Rupert's adventures are a delight to read about.

The 1st book in this series covers Beltane, Litha, Lammas & Mabon, while the second book covers Samhain, Yule, Imbolc & Ostara. I have 6 kids, as most ofyou know, so I am always on the lookout for something Pagan-centered for them. Let me tell you that hands-down, these are the perfect books for walking your younger children through the wheel of the year. In the two books, readers are following Rupert, a bunny rabbit, through the seasons. Rupert happens to have found his way to the sacred meeting place of humans who gather at a particular time each year, celebrating the passing of their seasons and holidays. Along his road to discovery of what these humans do as the seasons change, Rupert meets various forest friends that explain and teach him about the Wheel of the Year. I was enchanted by both books. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories magickal. The author, Kyrja, has an incredible way of explaining the turning of the wheel so that even your younger children will understand and grasp the concept. The day I received these books in the mail, my youngest, who, at the time of this show is still not yet 2 years of age, was all over these and completely engrossed. All of my children have loved hearing the stories contained within these two beautiful books. In a time when I have heard many parents speak out about needing more published works from a Pagan perspective that are geared for children, Kyrja and Rupert's Tales answer that cry for help. I also happen to have the companion activity book, which is exactly that, a Wheel of the Year activity book based off of the stories from within both books. There are coloring pages, along with activities for your children. These books are definitely a treasured keepsake.Read more ›
