Rurouni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Romantan, July 15, 2011
This review is from: Rurouni Kenshin [Jump C] Vol. 1 (Rurouni Kenshin) (in Japanese) (Comic)
As a Japanese student and a huge fan of the English-language publication of Rurouni Kenshin, I decided that owning a Japanese version of my favorite manga would be of use to improving my Japanese reading skills. I understand a little more than 50% or the original Japanese dialogue, and I can interpret the rest from having read the the English version so many times. Mainly, I have learned how to read much more kanji than I could previously because of the furigana typeset. As a manga fan and a Japanese student, I recommend reading this book in the original Japanese!
As for the manga itself, it is an excellent series and is considered a classic Shonen Jump manga as well as anime. It follows the life of the rurouni Himura Kenshin and his friends that reside at the Kamiya Kasshin-ryuu kenjutsu doujou, owned by the young master Kamiya Kaoru. The story also diverges the story into arcs, as with most manga, and elaborates on Kenshin's enemies as well as his bloody past as an assassin. Watsuki Nobuhiro's artwork is stunning with detailed fight scenes that practically leap off the page, well-designed characters, and wonderfully detailed backgrounds. I highly recommend this manga to anyone that loves shounen manga.
As for the item itself, this book was in excellent condition. The covers were not damaged, the pages were not ripped or bent, the spine was crisp and unbroken, and the item arrived within a matter of days. Most of all, the book was cheap--cheaper than most English-language Shonen Jump books you buy in the bookstore! I was very satisfied with this seller and will buy again.

Jump into Rurouni !, May 13, 2006
This review is from: Rurouni Kenshin [Jump C] Vol. 1 (Rurouni Kenshin) (in Japanese) (Comic)
The book is about Rurouni Kenshin, who is a wanderer who travels around Tokyo. (Rurouni means "wanderer" in Japanese.) Rurouni is always getting into trouble because he doesn't mind his own business.
I liked the characters in the book. They all had their own different personality. For example, Sano is hot-headed and he's a big troublemaker. Megumi is a girl, and she is a doctor who is a little up-tight. She cares about Kenshin, and she travels with him a lot.
The book is very funny. Overall, this book is a romance and comedy, with a lot of fighting and violence and blood. The comedy is mostly between Sano and Kenshin. Sano always hits Kenshin with something, and Kenshin always says "Oro!" (a shocked expression). Then Kenshin falls to the ground with a big lump on his head. It's very funny - just like Wiley Coyote falling off a cliff! There are a lot of different romances, and some characters do end up together. (But I'm not going to tell you who, because that would ruin the story.)
I liked the book a medium amount. It was fun to read, but it had too much fighting in it. It seems like all that ever happens is fight, fight, fight. It's an "I'm gonna kick your butt" type of deal. I would have liked it better if there had been more story and less fighting.
I would recommend this book for readers 13 years old and up who like anime and manga. The book has too much violence for a younger crowd.
