StarForce!!!,
By RPG Lover (Silex MO USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Rush for Berlin (CD-ROM)
This game has StarForce copy protection, which is software that you do not want on your computer. Reportedly, it replaces your CD and/or DVD drivers, and often causes extreme hardware and software problems. I've been a victim of the software problems, it basically crippled my very expensive SCSI scanners and it was extremely difficult to figure out what was doing it. It could be the best game that's ever been produced, but anyone who's had the StarForce experience is going to steer clear.

Nice gameplay and great graphics,

I was fearful of getting the same experience with the Starforce software that the other reviewers mention but went ahead with this game anyway because of postive industry reviews.
It does seem somewhat unstable (I've had two crashes to the desktop in only a few hors play), but overall I enjoy the gameplay and graphics of Rush for Berlin. (There's an every-five-minutes autosave feature which alleviates some of the anxiety you might fear about a CTD in the middle of your game.) Especially nice to this RTS game is the ability to tilt the view to get a better view of the horizon than most RTS engines allow. Pacing is good, and I'm surprised that despite an older graphics card (GeForce Ti 4400) that this game looks as sharp as it does with rich textures and consistent frame rates. I'm pleased with the purchase overall and would recommend the game. [Edit: Since I wrote this review in June, (it's now September) the game has been patched a couple of times, incresing the performance of the game quite a bit. I haven't had a game crash since the second patch. Also, there are some nice unlockable campaigns: German and French.]

Have fun playing; forget Starforce,

I too was wary about Starforce at first, but most of what you read about this copy protection is overblown rumors. It does not "drain CPU power," damage your computer, or any of that nonsense. The people who hate Starforce are either ignorant, responding in knee-jerk fashion to issues they don't understand, or pirates who'd rather not have to purchase the game. Rush for Berlin is an incredibly well-done game with great graphics and fun gameplay. There are 4 campaigns with optional and secret objectives, and 5 multiplayer modes, making for a lot of replay with this title. Try the demo before you buy, both single and multiplayer, and see if you agree.

Bought this game recently, knowing that Windows7 allows you to play older games..
But this game has something called Starforce protection which is blocking any attempt to play the game under Windows 7... So DO NOT buy this game !

RUSH FOR BERLIN/RUSH FOR THE BOMB,

I've been reading different reviews on different WWII games and there are a couple of different 'camps' for sure. On one end of the spectrum, there are those that really prefer the MICROMANAGEMENT approach where you have tons of control over how things are set up and carried out. Then there's the ARCADE crowd that pretty much prefer to simply shoot and blow stuff up without having to choose too much prone/ crouch/standing. It's whatever YOU enjoy and the purpose of these reviews is to help others find games that match their tastes, right? I'm probably a little closer to the latter crew so bear that in mind when you read my reviews. That, plus I'm almost 50yo and have had some military experience. Soooo, that being said....
I struggled to the end of 'BOOT CAMP' with RUSH FOR BERLIN. There's a LOT to do. Any game where you have to assign troops here and there to different keys just to form a group is too much hassle for me. I LOVE CALL OF DUTY and games like that, First-Person Shooter types, like you might guess. The games that got me tracking down this direction are CODENAME PANZERS I & II. So far, I've found them hard to beat. My all-time favorite was PANZER GENERAL II which I played forever until it would no longer play on 'modern' PCs. Setting your individual soldiers' or even squads' to go prone or crouch is fine, but when you end up in platoon/company type engagements, it's a bit ridiculous. The troops are incredibly tiny in this game. You CAN zoom in to see wonderful detail but then, you miss out what's going on in the whole picture. I don't really like to constantly zoom in/out. I'm sure it was b/c the practice scenario was at NIGHT but you really can't tell the troops apart. I guess some folks might enjoy this a MORE Fog of War type of perspective? Hmmm... Oh yeah, the troops have LOTS of comments for you, some of which are realistic, some of which are funny...at least the 1st time you hear them; then it gets quite old. I think you might be able to shut them off/up via the options though. CodeName Panzers has the perfect size troops and still you can zoom in on any wonderful action you're directing. I really appreciate ALL of StormRegion/CDV's works. Incredible. Really. I see the direction they were heading in...and I look forward to checking out CODE NAME PANZERS III, even though it's COLD WAR and I'm a WWII fan. So, this game might be interesting to you, if you want to check out the company's more recent items and work backwards, like I'm doing. I just don't know if I'm going to have the patience to do it, though. An important thing all reviewers SHOULD mention is, if the game plays on the current popular system and, yes. RUSH for the BOMB plays well on VISTA. So does CODENAME PANZERS I & II. Unfortunately, I've bought a few, albeit quite reduced, that will NOT play on VISTA, like FIRST BATTALION, DUNES OF WAR, etc. and some other ones. Rambling but helpful I hope.

This game has software on it that can damage a computer.,
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rush for Berlin (CD-ROM)
Starforce is a copy protection system, that comes with this game. Starforce, once installed, drains the CPU power of your computer, damaging performance, and hurting your Frame rates. It also slows down overall speed. Starforce cannot be removed, and if removed, will install every time your restart the game. Starforce is a dangerous program, and games containing it, should not be bought.
