Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

On Rush, Finland’s Ville Virtanen, better known as Darude, has kept his shiny techno sound intact, hoping to duplicate the success of the monstrous singles "Sandstorm" and "Feel That Beat" from 2001’s Before the Storm. Rush may not reach that standard of dance floor nirvana, but the record is impeccably produced, with positive energy and shuddering thumps to spare. It’s also exceedingly brainless, forgetting to mix up its sound and rhythms enough to produce the variety necessary for Darude’s production mix to really take off. Actually, "mix" isn’t even accurate, as it implies a record with some flow and purpose. None of these complaints matter when Darude is on, like when he gets a little dark on "Serendipity," then turns around and goes Ibiza for "Healing." A little more cohesion and a little less filler, however, could have turned this record into more than just a launching point for remixes that other DJs will use to far greater effect. --Matthew Cooke

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 24, 2003
By A Customer
I believe anyone who enjoyed the fist album will like this one very much. Music, Healing, Obsession, Drive, they're all good! Well, except for maybe Ranta - I think they had to throw in a slow tune and this was their pick.

Despite what the editorial review says - "brainless" mix - I have not found another DJ who was able to produce the awesome sounds and beats in Darude's music.

One thing to note - being in another state really brings out sounds you wouldn't hear otherwise - and it's great to listen to while on a long, night drive. Someone who is looking strictly for dance or club music will probably be disappointed. This is more of a euro-trance album. If that's your style - give this album a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darude has done it again!, January 6, 2004
By A Customer
Darude definitely knows music! He has created a work of art. All of the songs differ from one another unlike Before the Storm. I'm not saying that cd was bad or anything; I have enjoyed all of the songs ever since I bought the cd. However, it is obvious that Darude spent much more time making this cd and it definitely paid off. My favorite song so far is Obsession. This song is a slow builder and you must listen to the whole song to get it. But boy does it treat you well! All of the other songs are really pleasing to listen to. This cd is too slow to dance to, but is perfect to listen to when you're driving or relaxing. Ahh screw it!! It's good to listen to wherever, whenever! Do yourself a favor and buy this cd!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Darude - The God of Trance, October 26, 2004
By Paavo Stubstad (Oak View, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
People who say that Darude's first album - "Before the Storm" is better than this have no clue what they are talking about. In "Rush", he avoids the monotonous feeling that "Before the Storm" had due to very similar beats in most of the songs and an obsession with his "Sandstorm" synth, which he uses in about every other song. In "Rush" Darude shows his true talent for composing uplifting trance music with outstanding melodies like in "Bitter Sweet", "Rush", and "Passing By" along with much cleaner, crisper beats than many other Dance CDs. Also, I have always disliked lyrical trance and it is becoming harder and harder these days to come by an album with mostly non-lyrical songs - many great artists are veering towards the more cheesy lyrical trance (Blank & Jones, Paul van Dyk) but Darude manages a whole album with just one lyrical song (2 mixes of it). Best. Trance. Album. Ever. If you like Darude, check out some music by "Ignite" at http://www.ampcast.com/ignite
