It Actually Works!!, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Rush Hampton 61001 Mosquito Catcher, Metal, Single Pack (Lawn & Patio)
After reading tons of reviews on various Mosquito trap technologies, I was skeptical that this one was any different. Since the price was only around $90 I figured it was the cheapest 'gamble' out there, so I bought it and put it in my backyard, which has been pretty much unusable since June due to the aggressive Mosquito population.
Sure enough, I have emptied hundreds of mosquitos out of the drawer in the 3 weeks I have had it installed. My highest total in a day was 50. My lowest total in a day was 3 when I decided to add an Octenol bait to this trap...which acted as a repellant as far as I can tell. This trap definitely works better in the dark when the little blue lights show up better.
There are still mosquitos in my backyard, and I still get bit. I think mosquito conditions are so bad that even after catching hundreds of them it hasn't had a significant positive effect yet.
One word of advice I would like to give...place this trap away from any area you want to use. I moved it from the yard to my deck for a brief time, and it was a bad idea. All the mosquitos from the yard were on my deck suddenly. Yikes!
We are nearing the end of Mosquito season in Atlanta as cool Fall temperatures arrive, so it will be hard to judge what effect removing a few hundred mosquitos will have. I am anxious to see how the Mosquito Catcher works next summer during the height of the Mosquito frenzy.
Anyway, if you've been wanting something to catch mosquitos with, but have been afraid of the prices, this is a product that can have positive results without breaking the bank.

Works Great, May 10, 2006
This review is from: Rush Hampton 61001 Mosquito Catcher, Metal, Single Pack (Lawn & Patio)
After trying two propane mosquito traps both by (Flowtron) that turned out to be faulty. We decided to try the TekQuest Mosquito catcher. Now going on its third season. This work horse is still going strong. This realy works without the propane tank or CO2. This unit works just like they state in the Product features paragraph listed above. They do have a web site http://www.rushhampton.com/mc_inf-R.pdf
This year I added a Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridge. It seems to do a little better, but works just fine without it.

At first skeptical, but now sold on this machine., June 2, 2007
This review is from: Rush Hampton 61001 Mosquito Catcher, Metal, Single Pack (Lawn & Patio)
Behind our backyard we have marshland that allows mosquitoes to reproduce like crazy. This year has seen an especially wet spring and therefore a greater number of mosquitoes are present. Having looked at other models including the higher-end ones (those with separate propane tanks) we decided to take a gamble on one of the less expensive models that wouldn't break the bank if it didn't actually work.
Having had this machine now for under a week I'd like to share my experience thus far with this product. After running if for 4 hours at dusk and then checking the catch tray, about 15-20 dead mosquitoes, including pieces of them were present.
Having run the machine for a non-stop 48 hour period in very warm weather. What I found was up to 50 or more mosquitoes and various bits of insects, including a few moths were present.
I have already noticed a decrease in the number of female mosquitoes in my backyard (and this is after only a few days of use). Even though as the accompanying DVD indicates, the real reward is to eventually break the generational cycle of these insects to wipe-em-out or at least reduce their number over a period of 4 weeks. For anyone who is skeptical like I was before buying a product such as this, for what its worth...it works. At least in Michigan and similar regions in the Midwest, where the mosquito species are probably the same (they seem to get tricked, even without any extra bates one can purchase for it).
It has a relatively solid construction, and will even work in rainy weather although one must be sure to prevent the 3 foot long power cord from getting wet if plugged in to an extension. The fan is a bit noisy, but not to the point that it becomes an nuisance. It has 2 active modes of operation (manual) which keeps it on 24/7 and auto which uses the product's light sensor to activate once its dark enough outside for the blue LEDs (when paired with the heated cone near the intake) to attract the mosquitoes.
