5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best film music around, October 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Rush Hour 2: Original Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Perhaps the most intriguing part about this amazing music is the great difference from the first movie in the series. I found that this music was even better, considering Schifrin used a Symphony Orchestra instead of an orchestra with guitars and other fancy stuff. The music is outstanding; it simply depicts the movie so well behind the hilarious actions and remarks of the film's two main actors. The main theme is outstanding, especially the opening part of the movie. When such a great theme is used and changed in the movie according to the given mood, there is a successful film score. It blows my mind how such beautiful orchestral music can peacefully exist with the comedic, changing plot of the movie, where there are many other musical features as well. The excitement of the score is its truly best feature; the first movement takes you into Hong Kong, making the movie sound like a journey and such. This, along with the score to the original Rush Hour, are fabulous works and need to be bought by anyone who simply loved the movie or that loves new and interesting film music!

4.0 out of 5 stars The rush is back, December 29, 2002

Lalo Schifrin, after his success with the first Rush Hour film, returns again to score the sequel. I gave the first score 5 stars and this one 4 because the first one had the better music, but this one sounds much, much better. The first one contained more of guitars and synths and things of that nature with an orchestra. This one contains primarily a symphony orchestra which makes it sound so much better. The main theme is back, this time in a much more orchestral manner with Asian style percussion and woodwinds. "Out of the Way" is an exciting action cue containing great brass punches and thrilling string lines. "Mu Shu Parlor" contains Schifrin's Chinese like music that he used in the first film. "Parlor Fight" contains some meaty brass, Asian type woodwinds, and powerful percussion. "Isabella" contains a sultry love theme and "Nevada Mood" utilizes a jazz ensemble. "The Cosmo Is Las Vegas" contains big band type music along with pounding drums in a Chinese like fashion. The last 3 tracks contain some good action music. 2 tracks in the middle, "Lil' Darlin" and "Shiny Stockings" could have been left out because they do not really fit well into the music, except maybe "Nevada Mood". The orchestra does a nice job doing the music and i'm looking forward to Schifrin's work on Rush Hour 3 (if there is one, which I hope there is).
