5.0 out of 5 stars His masterpiece - by far!!!!!!!!, March 24, 2004

This review is from: Rush Hour Plus (Audio CD)
Forget about all the other albums he did afterwards. Compared to this early southern soul / folk funk masterpiece they are a bunch of plastic imitations of the real thang. Don't get me wrong, the voice and the humor and the storytelling songs were kept intact until today, but the studio productions have been stuck on the corny side of 1980s soul production with all those cheap drum machines and synth sounds ever since. Not so on this platter which curiously came out on the slick Philadelphia Int. label that gave us MFSB, The O'jays, etc.. Here the man is backed by some tight ass southern fried band. As Bobby does the Boogie, wonders were his keys is at, philosophises about Nicknames and what the definition of Evil is, you wonder what a great American Soul artist was lost to the rest of the world outside the chittlin circuit after this LP. You have to see him live to get a glimpse of his real magic. And if you really wanna dig some more of this hip ol cat's style also go find his 70s singles on Warner or Jewel, some of which are out on CD!
