Rush: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack

Eric Clapton had never provided the score to a film, but he finally jumped into the film area with the soundtrack to Rush. The movie chronicles the tale of two undercover narcotic offices who in the course of their jobs become heroin addicts themselves. The album is made up of mostly instrumentals that has a dark and mellow nature that underscores the decent into drug addicted hell the two cops spiral into. Mr. Clapton himself was facing tragedy as he was recording the album, his four year old son Conner, was killed when he accidentally fell out of a window. To memorialize his son, he wrote and recorded one of most haunting and elegant songs ever written about the loss of loved one, "Tears In Heaven". The song would go on to bigger fame in it's Unplugged version, but the studio version is equally beautiful and worth buying the album for alone.

Generally, the CD is very mellow and relaxing. 7 of the tracks are instrumental pieces, and 3 have vocals. Clapton's guitar is articulate and sounds great. The digital recording and mastering are very good and the CD has great sound. Like alot of soundtracks, the pieces tend to wander without the accompanying video, but this one isn't too bad. It is great music to doze in and out of during an afternoon rain! Some of the better tracks are in the sample listening:

Clapton is God! That was all I could say after listening to this. I mean his playing here is just down right amazing as always, but I wasnt expecting much when I listend to this, I just thought it was gonna be 'Tears In Heaven' and thats it. Boy, was I wrong or what? This is a mostly instumental album, except for the last three songs. But it is never boring, and it will never-not amaze you. Clapton plays with such emotion, I havent heard Clapton play with this much emotion since Derek And The Dominos were together 30 years ago. Claptons voice sounds great here. Now on to 'Tears In Heaven' the acoustic song. This is without a doubt the best song on the album in in the top 5 Clapton songs of all time! Its about him losing his kid who fell from like a 2 story window, so there is a lot of emotion behind it. I feel a close attraction to this song because around the time this came out my older sister had died, and my mom loved Clapton so she connected with this song and it makes me and her both stop and think every time we here it. This is a five star album any way you look at it!

I love this music! Limited words, yet lots of feelings. I haven't seen the movie but I have 4 kids. When my husband puts on this CD, I lite the candles and we slip off to a wonderful place with this music. It's Eric Clapton without all the talk.

Of the 23 EC solo CDs I own, I'd rank this in the top 5. Tears
in Heaven is the most well known song, but the rest of the
material is quite good. Because it is a soundtrack, there is
more a feel of a collection of songs than on some albums which
are crafted as a single entity. For the same reason, many of
the songs are instrumental, but some are nearly as powerful
musically as are the lyrics of Tears in Heaven. Because the
movie concerns police officers who become addicted themselves,
some of the music has druggy overtones, e.g. Preludin Fugue.
Of his other material, the mood this CD elicits reminds me
most of the title track to Another Ticket. If you like EC's
bluesier material, you'll like this. Buddy Guy plays guitar and
sings on Don't Know Which Way To Go.The CD is worthwhile
entirely on its own, but the movie is worth seeing as well.

I was very disappointed with this cd. The movie was so good and had alot of good songs.The music in the movie was not on the cd. It only has the guitar solos and two songs with words. If I had known this ,I would of bought singles instead of the cd.

Although the movie for which this is a soundtrack is ancient by Hollywood standards, the music remains alive and as relevent as when it was created. For Clapton fans this is a must-addition to your collection. Keep in mind that movie music is, by definition, incidental, and you will find some forgiveness in the occaisional musical non-sequiter. Even with that disclaimer, however, this is Clapton in a rich blues genere. If you like Eric Clapton, you must buy this disk!

If you like slow sexy music, this is the CD to buy!!! Claptons guitar provides most of the vocals and it really does sing on this one!

My passion is guitar playing by the most accomplished. Clapton is one of the all time best. His voice is good, but I favor his guitar solos. I was inspired by the Crossroads Festival DVD's. This album is a great addition to enjoying his talent.Blues Guitar Greats

Probably only for die-hard Clapton fans, or people who really like the movie. When I listen, I start to imagine I'm taking drugs with Jennifer Jason Leigh, ruining my future as a police officer, and I become depressed.
