Rush - ReDISCovered Unboxing Video

Rush – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting.

Just last year, a career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature praised the band for its continuing artistic vitality, noting that “It’s true that Rush ... Read more in Amazon's Rush Store

Editorial Reviews

In March of 1974, Rush released their self-titled debut through the band's own indie label, Moon Records in Canada, and quickly sold out of the initial 3500 copies originally pressed. Moon Records would soon become Anthem Records, which launched in 1977, and continues to serve as the band's only Canadian record company. To mark the band's 40-year recording career, on April 15, 2014, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) will celebrate with the vinyl reissue of the original Moon Records (pre-Mercury) release of Rush, as part of Universal's reDISCovered vinyl series. Housed in a sturdy, custom box with a lift-off top, this landmark album is pressed on 200g, audiophile grade vinyl, from the original 1974 analog stereo masters, cut to copper plates using the Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) process at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Rush also features the original Moon Records jacket art, complete with the original MN-100-A/B Matrix etching, and will include a 16'x22' reproduction of the first Rush promo poster, three 5'x7' lithographs of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and John Rutsey, a 12'x12' Rush Family Tree poster, and a digital download card for a free digital copy of this newly remastered release.

Featuring the band's original line up, Lee, Lifeson and Rutsey, Rush's eponymous 1974 debut features eight hard- hitting rockers including 'Finding My Way', the fast-paced 'Need Some Love', 'Take A Friend', 'What You're Doing', the southern rock vibe of 'In The Mood' and their U.S. breakthrough anthem 'Working Man' which was made famous by Cleveland, Ohio's WMMS radio station. Other tracks include the more melodic 'Here Again' and the atmospheric 'Before and After', which gradually builds into a burst of power chords and heavy guitar riffs.

Rush's unique style and sound continues to evolve and push the envelope of rock into new territories, gaining legions of new fans along the way. After a four decade journey, in 2013 Rush was recognized for their immeasurable impact and influence in rock and roll and were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to the delight of fans and critics alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous listening experience! April 30, 2014
By Eric
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
I don't think I ever paid attention to whether an LP was mastered with lacquers versus copper, but clearly there is something to this direct metal mastering (DMM). Rush has never sounded as good as they sound on this LP. The soundstage created by the mixing done here, and the sheer quality of the mastering process makes this one of my favorite LPs to listen to. I already loved Rush, but the experience listening to this LP is just incredible. Wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful version of a classic album May 27, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
The most important part here (the record) is flawless, totally flat and centered properly, and the quality of the recording is also top-notch. Even if you have a copy of this album (or CD or cassette), you wouldn't regret getting this pressing as a new master. The mix is flawless, and even though I won't pretend to know if anything is or isn't tweaked or changed, I just know these songs have not sounded this good on my home stereo in years. If you don't care about the extras, there is a record-only version floating about as well, but if you like lots of goodies (which have no value other than the "ooooooohhh!" factor), then this is a real treat. I would love it if RUSH released ALL of their catalog in this fashion, I'd probably end up picking them all up :)

Nice package guys ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Price! April 29, 2014
By mosmond

I received my order today and the original Rush album has never sounded better! The packaging is excellent and any Rush fan will love the extras included. That said, this Rush fan would have loved to have rarities included, such as their 1973 singles Not Fade Away and You Can't Fight It...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Epic In Every Way May 8, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
I love Rush so much so this review may be a little biased. But I've been searching for their first album on vinyl for quite some time and while it would have been cool to find an older one for the nostalgic feel and collectible aspect, this is still amazing! The sound quality is great, the box everything comes in is hard and sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. I love this purchase! I wish they'd release all their albums this way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic masterpiece! April 29, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
This sounds better than I could have possibly hoped. It's like being a kid again back in Ohio when I first heard this. Not a single click, crackle or pop and the mix is immersive. It's really impressive to be able to listen to something you've heard a hundred times and be blown away like its the first time. I hope they do the entire catalog as DMM vinyl. I will buy them all once again. No black smudges on the copy I opened (I bought 3 copies). This almost makes up for that Moving Pictures Live in Cleveland vinyl train wreck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pressing of this Gem! May 3, 2014
By geoff
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
The box and contents are all cool, but my focus is on the 200g Gem mastered from the original tapes. I put it up to two other prior presses, and this one is truly amazing. It's nice to actually turn up the volume on my RECEIVER, the DB on the press is perfect.
Hope they release others, especially counterparts on LP

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait! May 1, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
I'm not a huge Rush fan, but my wife loves Rush and wanted me to pick this up. I had just recently acquired a turntable after a couple decades of living without one, and this 200g LP is sonically gorgeous. (Some of the limitations of the source tapes and the original mix do show through, but I consider them to be charming artifacts and not distractions.) Make sure you have a good phono cartridge to extract as much information as possible!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!! April 29, 2014
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
Received mine today and it's in perfect condition. no problems others had with smudging. Perfect sound!! Very nice collectible box, and the family tree is cool. just wish the poster was rolled and not folded. As nice as this is seems like an oversight. Get one now while you can.

Totally atypical Rush, one of the very best ever pure hard rock albums.
I sincerely hope the Mighty Three decide to do this with all of their LPs, sequentially!
