Book Description

STEPHEN KING ON CHRISTOPHER SMITH: "Put me down as an enthusiastic Christopher Smith fan. Smith is a cultural genius."

Kirkus Editorial on A RUSH TO VIOLENCE: "This crime thriller is a fast-paced and engaging read. ... The narrative kept me on the edge of my seat and I really couldn't predict what was going to happen next. ... The pace never flagged. ... The central characters of Camille, Sam, Emma, Marty and Jennifer are nuanced and very true-to-life. Although theirs is an unusual life lived at a hectic pace, I found myself developing real empathy for their plight and always felt that they were--despite their unusual life choices or circumstances--genuine, well-meaning and real people. The Miller clan and their acquaintances were exceptionally well drawn, alternating between petty pragmatism, shameless snobbery, greed and a perverse noblesse oblige. I particularly enjoyed the humorous and biting portrayals of Camille's siblings...top-notch dialogue and quirky characterizations." --Kirkus Editorial

From the #1 International Best-selling author of "Fifth Avenue" comes Smith's best thriller yet!  An overall Top 100 best-seller!

THE FIFTH AVENUE SERIES in order:
Fifth Avenue
Running of the Bulls
From Manhattan with Love
From Manhattan with Revenge
A Rush to Violence
Park Avenue

Description: Sixteen years ago, Camille Miller left behind her life as an assassin in order to raise her daughter Emma. But now, when her billionaire father is found brutally murdered, she must tap into old instincts to learn who killed her father and why.

The suspects? Her six siblings, each so desperate for their father's money that they'd kill for it.

What Camille doesn't see coming is Emma's plan to solve the mystery first. Or P.I. Marty Spellman's assignment, which is to find Camille or risk the deaths of those dearest to him. Over the course of one day, all three players, plus Spellman's teenaged daughter Beth, find themselves in a race to the finish. Nobody's goals are what they appear to be. Twists abound. And not one single person, for one single moment, is safe.

PRAISE FOR CHRISTOPHER SMITH:

***JIM ASHLEY ON FIFTH AVENUE AND RUNNING OF THE BULLS***

Smith is this generation's Master storyteller. If you're a fan of suspense thrillers and unbelievable twists and turns, you will quickly become a fan of Christopher Smith! He entices you to fall in love with his characters only to be caught totally off guard when their fate goes in a direction you never saw coming. He takes the styles of James Patterson and Steven King to a totally kicking level. I can honestly say that I spent way too many late night hours reading chapters because I could not put it down and couldn't wait to see what he would do next. Starting with Fifth Avenue, he builds such entertaining and deep characters that you know this cannot be the end but just the start to future stories interweaving these strong individuals. With Running of the Bulls, you're so caught in the action - that you're honestly rooting for the characters that would historically be the bad guys in other tales. Christopher seems to set the bar higher and higher for himself, and I can't wait for his upcoming releases in 2012. A definite must read for mystery, suspense, and thriller lovers!

***PLANET KINDLE ON CHRISTOPHER SMITH***

"Fifth Avenue, the first novel by penned Christopher Smith, is a fantastic first effort and was the reason I was simply unable to put my Kindle down over this Christmas period. And I would go as far to say that it ranks as one of the best first novels I've ever read."--PLANET KINDLE

"Another smash by Christopher Smith! He is definitely becoming the next "Can't Wait For the Next One!" storyteller. Starting from the first page, he takes you on a thrill ride you can't wait to get on but are anxious about what's around the next page. You never know what you're going to get hit with next. You just know you're always in for a wild time. As with his other stories, you just don't know what's up ahead. Time after time, you get hit with a shocker that makes you say, "NO, that did not just happen." You will not be disappointed. A great read! The title definitely foreshadows that you're in for a RUSH of adrenaline to the end. After you hit that final page, your mind will be reeling and you'll be begging for the next book by Smith.  --Jim Ashley

5.0 out of 5 stars Has everything a Thriller needs June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Throw in Assassins, betrayal, sibling rivalry, greed and hired guns and chances are the book will be hard to put down. The Fifth Avenue, Running of the Bulls universe that Smith has created keeps on getting better and better. The characters in this update to the universe are very endearing. Marty, Camille, Emma and Beth are the characters that drive this book forward. From start to finish, Smith pulls you in. At times the events seem out of this world but he still manages to make you feel for the characters. And believe me when i say that some characters here carry loads that would make Atlas empathetic. When i finished the book, i found it to be a great read, enjoyed the ending and can't wait to see what Smith has in store for this universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rush To Violence- Christopher Smith June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was thrilled when Chris let some of his reader fans in on a secret, and that secret was an early release of this his newest book, A Rush to Violence. Beginning with his Bullied series I was hooked on his imagination in the story of Seth. By revealing that some of what he wrote was from his personal experiences I was even more blown away. The next books only increased my admiration of his different writing styles. As someone who has never been to New York I actually could imagine the city the way he drew the picture of it for me. With Rush to Violence once again I'm drawn into NYC feeling its grittiness and beauty. All of the characters in this book are described in a way that make you feel like you might know them, or someone like them, which doesn't mean they are all good people- they aren't! Private Detective Marty is definately a guy's guy- women love him, and guys want to *be* him. With his family and friends in danger (due to being hired by some really bad characters to find someone they want to "take out"), he searches for them with the assistance of his wife Jennifer, who is an investigational journalist. The two of them form a formidable team and will not stop until they find their family and friends and are safe and the mission, that he was hired to do, is complete. A page turner, a great read, a heart stopping ride,a thriller, and a RUSH! This book is not to be missed but..... be prepared to stay up all night to finish it as I did!! Great job Chris and I am looking forward the the next book release in July! Thank you, thank you, thank you :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Beginning June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mr. Smith better be writing his little heart out for #2 in this Marty Spellman trilogy as this is his best yet.

Camille and her daughter, Emma, are living in Paris when they hear that Camille's father has died in a tragic accident. Camille and Emma discover that they are the sole heirs to the father's large fortune as he has left his 6 other children and his mistress out of the will unless Camille and Emma are dead. Did I mention that Camille had been an assassin? Marty Spellman is a PI on his second marriage to an investigative journalist, Jennifer, with two children living with his previous wife, Gloria. His newest client kills those you love unless you are successful. And that is just the beginning.

Smith's writing and timing are so good that you don't even know you are holding your breath until it is time to hold it again. This is so much more than a page turner - this is a stop everything because nothing is going to happen until I can finish this book. Smith's characters are easy to like and well developed enough that you feel as if they are your friends - that is a writing gift. Even the characters who aren't very likable are written well enough to be understandable in their actions.

This is an exciting and fun thriller that doesn't stop until the very end with a lead character, Marty, who you will wonder about until the next book is published. It doesn't get much better than that.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Rush to Publish? April 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed other Christopher Smith books, but this was implausible bordering on just plain ridiculous.

Things like:

- Marty Spellman's world is sooooo dangerous that his children, ex-wife, her new husband, and their friends are all trained and ready for danger at any moment. Secret signals, diversionary tactics, oooo aaaa... yet he's married to a TV reporter. Talk about not keeping a low profile.

- Marty's ex-wife Gloria is continually referred to as Gloria Spellman, yet she's remarried and her husband is in the story. This is just poor editing.

-----Spoiler Alert-----

What's with all the killer teenage girls?

- Camille goes to Europe, meets a guy, and becomes trained as an international assassin at 18 years old. She gets pregnant and just walks away from it all at 23 to become a mom. That's normal.

- Camille's daughter Emma goes from a regular 16-year old one day to a cold-blooded killer the next. In one day she learns how to handle a gun by watching You Tube videos, then concocts a master plan to take out her whole family. Raging hormones?

- When everyone is kidnapped and thrown in the basement, all the adults stand around wringing their hands while only 15 year old Beth Spellman has an action plan which includes beating a guy to death with a hammer and grabbing a gun to defend them all. When it's all over, she's last seen laughing at a party looking all grown up. Killing people in cold blood and watching family friends die apparently had no impact on her.

The formatting on the Kindle edition is also poor, even in the updated version.

Loved the book at first, lots of action and "who's good and bad" but then became so silly that I skipped the last third and read the epilogue.
