A must have CD!,
By George Pursey (Solon, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rushmore (Audio CD)
I listened to Robin Stone's Rushmore CD for the first time several weeks ago. Given I had not heard of her before and that she was from my home town my assumption was that she was just one of many local artists playing the Cleveland area club scene. I was not expecting too much. Boy was I wrong. This CD has shot up to the top of my favorites list. I am a big fan of female rock/blues/folk artists and am familiar with most of the big names: Tori Amos, Poe, Jewel, Fiona Apple, etc., etc. I can tell you this lady can hang with the best of them. She has a great songwriting style that infuses her songs with a unique mixture of jazz, funk, and folk, and a clear mellifluous voice that embues all her songs with soul. Her band is very tight, reminiscent of DMB. I won't go into individual song reviews but will say that I am happy when a CD has 2-3 great songs on it. This one has many. It is one of the few CD's I can put on and leave on withought skipping through the "dull" tracks. Especially strong are the title track and "Threes". This is a very talented lady, a singer, songwriter and musician that beautifully blends all her talents into an enriching musical experience that defies categorization. I would strongly recommend this CD to anyone looking for something new and invigorating that is off the tiresome mainstream pop music path. Hopefully there will be more to come from Robin Stone. If her subsequent work is anything like this effort we have a lot to look forward to.
