Editorial Reviews

Wow ... was Russell s reaction as he walked out to a standing ovation at the venue of his dreams.

This is so much more than a concert; it is an experience of the greatest musical and emotional magnitude.

The spotlight was very much on the man with one of the most sensational singing voices that the classical world has ever known. But he was not alone; filling the enormous stage with him was the forty-eight piece Arts Symphonic impeccably led by Lizzie Ball under enigmatic conductor Robert Emery, the assured Capital Voices and an eighty- strong backing choir. What a magical sight and what magnificent sound!

Russell made an emotional opening to his fans,

It s difficult to find words to explain how I feel tonight ... because I built myself to this moment from the very day that I finished my last session of radiotherapy.

I remember going to bed dreaming about this night in the most famous of venues on the planet and here I am, thank God - I can t believe it.

Thank you for your welcome, it was absolutely incredible thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Russell s faultless performance starts with a powerful rendition of Somewhere and Ave Maria and is followed by a string of incredible numbers such as Funiculi Funicula and Volare and closes with a Royal Albert Hall roof-raising Nessun Dorma . One of the highlights of the wonderful set comes when Russell is joined by classical crossover newcomer Mary-Jess for a Phantom Of The Opera medley, and an amazing duet of The Prayer .

This is a dream come true and a performance of a life-time, enjoy.

First, Russell is amazing in this concert. Perhaps not his best voice (due to its taping at the end of a long tour), but the orchestra and venue is superb. Sound mixing is excellent.

Second, the filming is decent but not great. The camera cuts MUCH too much away from Russell and to the crowd and orchestra. We should be seeing Russell most of the time but the camera is constantly cutting away...annoying.

Finally, this is a PAL DVD. This means that if you are in North America, you MUST have a DVD that can play and out PAL or the DVD won't play. It will play on your PC, but that's not an ideal presentation. The DVD is multi-region though.

This DVD is not as good or as engaging as his Auckland concert, this is an older and more polished entertainer that knows his audience and plays to his strengths.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of Russell Watson. Sadly, at the time of the performance (one day after radiation treatment), he does not have the voice we love. I pray he gets it back. Mr Watson looks somewhat scared and is lacking his usual exuberance; the camera angles and programming content add to the somber mood.

The best that can be said is his unmatched perfect ear allows him to create a new voice, but the new voice, though quite good, is not fantastic.

Very unfortunate that the format of this DVD will not play in either of the DVD players in my home. One player is a high end Lexicon & the other is a Sony player. The return policy @ Amazon worked just fine..

This DVD is wonderful and a nice follow up to the original from 2003. But.....the sound is not synced to the video and the noticeable lag is very disconcerting to watch. I have returned one copy only to find the second copy is exactly the same as the first and shows the same lag in audio. It is a shame that the entire DVD is flawed in this way because the music is wonderful and Russell Watson's voice is incredible. I will try again by returning my second copy in the hope that another version has been produced with the proper sync between audio and video.

Russell Watson has a beautiful voice and is a pleasure to listen to and the live orchestra ads to the concert.
