5.0 out of 5 stars Just Great !
A great soundtrack album of an equally great film.
Enchanted music that beautifully flows throughout the film scenes, and yet can be enjoyed by itself. Delicate bitter-sweet Jazz music that will give you great moments.

Highly recommended !

1.0 out of 5 stars You Can Listen to Katya From Other CD - Better than Original
You cat Listen to Katya from Other Album - Body Heat: Jazz at the movies..

Orginal music played by Saxophone, (right?)
But, Jazz at the movies Band Play it by Trumphet.

You can get the album as used item.
But I'm afraid that I cannot..
Becase Amazon Don't sell used items to some countries..
My country, Korea is included..

I have that album, but...

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Masterpiece!, May 23, 2001

This music is so incredible. Although Katya and Alone In the World are two of my favorites, I truly enjoy every single track. The entire musical score flows together so beautifully. I received this CD a few days ago and cannot stop playing it. A haunting melody that will truly haunt you!

One of the most beautiful, quite and sweet scores ever writen. A complete delight. Katya's theme is great. The rest of the tracks wonderful. Goldsmith's back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical!, November 13, 2000

A perfect blend of Russian flavour, Jazz, together with a haunting Old World charm. It's that Jerry Goldsmith magic again. You'll want to play the tracks Katya & Alone in the World over & over & over again.

Amazing soundtrack. Fabulous jazz numbers by Goldsmith. One of his best. This CD, however, does seem a bit repetitive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Da!, March 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Russia House: The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
With the combined talents of Jerry Goldsmith, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Wynton Marsalis and Patti Austin, this is a jazzy class-act from beginning to end. A great soundtrack CD from an unlikely movie. (And, if you like it, you may want to check out the soundtracks to "Siesta" and "Afterglow".) Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Russia House, January 14, 2006
This review is from: The Russia House: The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
though the music written for this film is certainly not on par with the scores of such films as casablanca, i do agree that we shouldn't judge goldsmith's score solely on the basis of it's quality as a stand alone piece.

goldsmith's score is poignant, and it captures the bleak romanticism that is imbued in all aspects of russian life. as i happened to spend much time in moscow, i'd say that this score, in conjunction with schepisi's stolid cinematography, does a remarkable job transporting me back to that world.

the music in all of the "cia/spy" scenes (mostly taking place in washington, london, lisbon, and leningrad) are a little corn ball. but i do not think these sections of music distract from the scenes themselves.

all things being said, i love this movie. i am obsessed with this film. and the music, however good or corny, does stick in a good way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful score, beauticle performances, April 26, 2005

This is a brilliant score. In the context of the film, it adds powerfully to the tension and suspense. But more than that, it contains fantastic performances by Branford Marsalis on saxophone, John Patucci on bass, and Michael Lang on piano.

As a longtime fan of Instrumental movie soundtracks, I can say without a doubt, this is one of my all time favorites...the melody and variations are superb, I can't get this wonderful music out of my head, nor do I want to.
