Paul Richardson is a writer, translator, editor and publisher. Born and raised in California, he attended college and graduate school in the Midwest (Central College and Indiana University, Bloomington). He was bitten by the Russian bug in Leningrad, in 1981, shortly after swapping his tattered down jacket for a black marketer's fur hat. In 1989 and 1990, Richardson was deputy director of one of the first successful Soviet-Western joint ventures, a publishing company based in Moscow.
He is author of Russia Survival Guide: Business & Travel (seven editions), as well as the recently published novel Russian Rules. In his day job, he is publisher of Russian Life magazine and a consultant to the Russian Arts Foundation and Napa Valley Festival del Sole. He writes widely on Russian culture, history and society, and is a regular commentator on Vermont Public Radio.
To cope with the unnatural concentration of things Russian in his life, Richardson runs. A lifelong athlete, he joined the running tribe in his early 40s, and has since completed one marathon, five half-marathons and countless shorter races, including at least two where there was no shirt involved. He lives in Montpelier, Vermont and writes about running and Russia at runningisflying.com.
