This work is from the time of WWII - when the Soviets were our "friends". It is chock full of misrepresentations and outright falsehoods regarding the goodness of the Soviet regime. There is some very good film footage, but little reference to where or when it was made. Most of it is likely Soviet "recreations" of battles. The commentary is pure propaganda. The Rooskies are all sweetness and light. Best line of the commentary - "The most murderous regime in human history". Of course the film was referring to the Nazis - who while deplorable - were amateurs (and indeed understudies) compared to the Soviets.
Bottom line - watch it, but turn off the sound.

I hoped for a film that provided a degree of historical balance regarding USSR and Germany. Old film; poor dialogue; questionable footage. Save your money and purchase a well written book i.e. "Patton: A Soldier's Life" or "A Soldier's Story" by Hirshson or Carr respectively. The cover advertisement with a iron fist wrapped like a Cobra , ready to strike, is visually terrific, and, lured my dollars from wallet to internet ozone. Just a note of caution for those inclined toward WW2 and, the history thereof.
