The Kirov Ballet's preformance of The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake is magnificent! The Kirov Ballet is one of the worlds most renowned companies. Any dancer or dance lover should be grateful to catch them on a video. As a dancer myself it is very encouraging and inspiring to watch wonderful ballerinas dance in these very important ballets. I have watched these tapes so many times that I have learned many of the dances. The Nutcracker is a well known ballet with a young girl being at a Christmas party then falling asleep and dreaming of the land of the sweets. Sleeping Beauty is my favorite ballet of all. It is a fairy tale of Aurora being priqued and falling asleep for many years and then re awakening. It is a very simple story but Petipa did such a wonderful job coreopraphing this piece to Tchaikovsky's music that it is very elaborate. And Swan Lake is a very touching and loving ballet of Odette and Odelle. And of course the prince. The way the Kirov presents these ballets with elaborate costuming and stage sets and also a wonderful orchestra the art of dancing itself is sometime not noticed for its great love. But as a dancer I would love someday to become a Kirov ballerina and preform in the Marinsky theatre in one of these 3 beautiful ballets.
