This review is from: Russian Children'S Bible (Orthodox Style) (Russian Edition) (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book for any non Russian speaking Christians who are just starting to learn Russian. Along with it's beautiful illustrations is print which is large and easy to read. The binding and paper quality is very professional too. I have seen this book sold for as much as $48 yet found it on Amazon for less than $20. It's hard to beat a price like that! A "must" for any Christian who is seriously studying Russian!

This review is from: Russian Children'S Bible (Orthodox Style) (Russian Edition) (Hardcover)
Like the other reviewer, I have been studying Russian and this Bible is an excellent choice for someone who is a student, who has finished the first level of Russian. But I think it would be good for Russian children also, either those who can read now themselves or younger ones who like to be read to. It contains stories from the both the Old and New Testaments in story form. The illustrations are evocative and beautiful, the print is large and very clear. Each story takes 1-2 pages and the essentials are taken out and told in an interesting way in simple language.
There are 75 Old Testament retellings including the Creation and Fall, Cain and Abel, the Tower of Babel and Flood, Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, the Hebrews in Egypt, Moses, Gideon, Samson, Ruth, David, Solomon, Elijah, Jonah and Daniel. The New Testament contains 70 retellings, starting with Zacharias, Mary, Elizabeth, Jesus' birth, the flight into Egypt, Jesus in the Temple as a child, His baptism and retellings of many miracles and parables. After the crucifixion and resurrection the Bible continues with stories of the Apostles ending with Paul's journeys and his writing from prison. There is nothing from the book of Revelation. Although this Bible is listed as the 'Orthodox' version and was translated into Russian from a Greek Orthodox children's Bible, it is suitable for a Christian from any bible-believing denomination as it simply retells Holy Scripture without adding or editorializing and does not include any doctrine peculiar to any one type of Christian church. The focus is on Christ, the words that He spoke and His resurrection, ascension and His promise to come again, along with His person (as the Bread of Life, as the Christ, the Son of the Living God and as the I AM).
