5.0 out of 5 stars A great partnership do Russians proud, January 11, 2012

This review is from: Russian Classics: Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Prokofiev Cello Sonatas, David Finckel and Wu Han (Audio CD)
I only have the Rachmaninov cello concerto (via download), so that's what this review is for. This is a piece that is very rarely heard, which is surprising, because it is full of all the wonderful Rachmaninov traits that people love in his other music. The cello part, while melodic, isn't a showpiece, so perhaps that limits its appeal. David Finckel and Wu Han give a great performance - the cello is lyrical and singing and Wu Han has plenty of notes and handles every one brilliantly. Recording quality is very good.
If you are a cellist you may be interested in David Finckel's free cello talks, which you can find on the [..] website (also Youtube and Vimeo). These are 100 mini cello lessons where he discusses a lot of aspects of cello technique and interpretation, and it is great to see him putting them all in to practice on this album.

I have owned this album for about 10 years and continue to come back again & again. I am not a classic music expert, but I know what I like and what moves me. Romantic and exciting......... don't miss this wonderful duo and the excitment they have captured
