5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding Sounds of the Steppes, April 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Russian Twilight (Audio CD)
The rhythms and instrumentation on this album are by themselves marvelous...add to this the plaintive voice of Madame Irina and the listener is transported to the hearth of a home in a strange land, serenaded with the dolor and mysticism of a strange and beautiful woman...beautiful, complex, mysterious...impossible to grow tired of!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting, July 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Russian Twilight (Audio CD)
Very enchanting music, in light of the crisis in Kosova, this music is enlightening and inspiring, as much to the balkans as Ry Cooders tribute to Cuban music in his soundtrack "Buena Vista Social Club". I definitely recommend this soundtrack to those who like to listen to incidental/sitar music, or slavic sounds. Irina's voice is as delicate as listening to pepples pluck in a pond.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Melodies, June 27, 2002
This review is from: Russian Twilight (Audio CD)
At first I thought I had purchased a cd of Modern Popular Rock music, boy was I surprised! In a good way. I listened to the cd all the way through and it left me feeling all goose-bumpy! What turned out to be a mistake turned into being one of my best liked cd's! A mixture of new age/country Russian folk songs by a lovely Irina Mikhailova whose voice reminded me of a cross between Judy Collins and Joan Baez mezmerizes! Bravo and excellant listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite!!!!!!!!, August 10, 2005
This review is from: Russian Twilight (Audio CD)
I Love this CD. It is so different, gentle and transcendant. It is Deep yet sublimely simple. The accompanying music to her lovely vocals is also evocative and communicative of a wonderful cultural approach to life and music. Irina Mikhailova has a rare voice that conveys a depth of nuance and emotion that most vocalists don't come near. Original, unique and enchanting!
I have over 1000 CD's. This remains in my top 10!
I just want to hear more of Irina. Her latest CD "Esquiesses" is also very good but the musical accompaniment is too bold for my tastes.

4.0 out of 5 stars low-fat World music, January 30, 2003

This review is from: Russian Twilight (Audio CD)
Most of the music filed under "World" in your favorite cd store can be likened to a really heavy meal - sure, it's good and everything's delicious (well, you :are: eating it) but it has too many things going on all at once. Russian Twilight starts off light and keeps it that way. And light is okay. The music is good, and Mikhailova's vocals are strong without being overpowering. The editing on this cd was good. I got this because I was looking for music I could use in meditation, and it works.
