Works, but...,

This review is from: Rust-Oleum 215173 EPOXYShield Concrete Patch, 24-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
Product is easy to use, just mix the 2 part epoxy. My problem with the product is that the repairs (patched or filled areas) are visible when top coated with Rustoleum garage paint. By visible I mean that the repairs are more glossy and easily seen. If that is not a concern, then the product fills / repairs as advertised.

Buy if you are painting your garage with epoxy paint,
This review is from: Rust-Oleum 215173 EPOXYShield Concrete Patch, 24-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was unable to find this product in local hardware stores, so I went with a similar product made by DAP. The staff member at the store told me it would work fine and I trusted them. Big mistake! After spending hours filling all the cracks and pits in my garage floor I became a bit worried a few days later when I noticed that the product dried flexible, like silicone. I call the 1-800 number and talked to a DAP rep. They told me that a flexible product like the one I used would flex when, say, a car drove on it, and the epoxy paint on top would likely crack. GREAT! So I spent addditional hours picking the filler out of eack crack with a screwdriver and wire brush - not fun! Back at square one, I went to EVERY hardware store locally looking for this Rustoleum product. I should mention that I subsequently painted my garage floor with Rustoleum's Epoxyshield garage floor kit. Anyway, after I was unable to find the product locally, I bit the bullet and ordered it off Amazon.com.
Yes this product is EXPENSIVE. At least compared to other brands of concrete filler (Quikrete, DAP, etc). Howevewr, if you're going to be painting over it with an epoxy paint, and are going to be putting heavy objects on the painted surface, then this product seems to be worth the money. Why? It fully cures in 8 hours. Other products take over a week. It dries rock hard and will not flex when, say, you drive on it. In turn the paint on top will not crack. I contaced a rep at Rustoleum and she said to lightly sand the cured filler before painting. She said this will make sure the epoxy paint fully adheres to the patched surface. I did this and have not ahd any isssues with peeling/cracking of the paint. If you are not going to paint over this product, and just need something to patch a crack in concrete, then I would go for something cheaper that comes in a caulking tube. It is also much easier to work with. DAP makes a good product called concrete and mortar filler. The only bad thing I have to say about this product is that once you mix the hardner and filler it turns a bit runny. It's like trying to patch cracks with honey. I would recommend mix it on a BIG piece of cardboard (say the size of a newspaper) so that you are not likely to drip any filler off the cardboard. Also keep rags nearby. I got some on my hands and it was a real pain trying to wash it off. I'd wear latex gloves next time for sure.

Don't use on vertical surfaces,

The product says that it can be used on vertical surfaces, but it can't. When I tried to use it to fix a crack in my foundation, it wasn't viscous enough, so it just ran down the crack and puddled on the ground. I tried my best to keep troweling it up, but it wasn't successful. I came back a couple hours later after it seemed like it had started to set just to find it had run a lot more.

This crack filler is excellent! Easy to mix and use. If you paint or epoxy over it, it will look shiny and smooth on the surface, but I used the 2 part expoxy paint with the colored speckles and it all blended in very well. Make sure to clean out the crack first.

Used product to repair large cracks in driveway. I tried several other fixes, including concrete and various compunds that claimed to repair cracks, but all failed to work. The epoxy seems to be a permanent fix. Only drawback so far is that the color does not match the old concrete. Perhaps it will in time. The box claims it is the color of concrete.

GARAGE FLOOR PATCH FOR EARTHQUAKE CRACKS,

The product is good. I ordered in conjunction with the RustOleum garage floor kit. I had it installed by a painter (I had too many other things to do...) but the whole process (DVD included) is just as easy as described by the DVD. It was good that I ordered two cans of the patch, the cracks in the concrete are not extensive but tended to enlarge over the years.
A good product--I would say to order an extra can...you just might need it. BONNIE IN VALLEJO

This work just as described. I had a good size crack in part of my foundation and I used this to seal it up and smooth it out. Just follow the directions and it works great.

Excellent do it yourself concrete patch.,

This product works as described. I used it to fill a chip in my garage floor, 2"X4" and maybe an inch deep. It was right where my creeper rolls around and gets stuck. I followed the directions and after several thin applications, ended up with a patched hole that is smooth enough to roll the creeper over. I am pretty happy with the results however the patch sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm not too picky but if you are and are looking for a uniform concrete color, this patch comes out shiny and darker than the existing concrete. The patch is very hard and once cured, my fingernail won't leave a mark, nor did the creeper with my 180 pounds on it rolling over the patch. Pros: Dries hard and seems very strong and solid. Easy enough to mix up and apply. Cons: The epoxy mixture sticks to your tool, be it a plastic blade like I started with or a metal trowel. It is difficult to get a good finish because of this which is why I made 3 thin applications verses just 1. Every time I would try to finish the patch, the tool would drag a little bit of epoxy out of the center of the patch, leaving a depression. I found that working the epoxy like you would concrete will pull epoxy out of the hole. Screeding the tool back and forth netted the best results but the finish wasn't as smooth. I did eventually get the finish to be good enough for my needs in this way. In all, this product did what I needed with good results. I definitely recommend this epoxy if you are in a similiar position as I was.

WASHES AWAY IN A FEW WEEKS!!!,

This review is from: Rust-Oleum 215173 EPOXYShield Concrete Patch, 24-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product is awful. Working as a team of two, we applied according to directions to a powerwashed driveway.
It looked OK, and seemed to work. About a week later, the driveway was sealed professionally. After about a month, it started washing out. By Spring, 6 months later, it was all gone. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

Works as advertised,
This review is from: Rust-Oleum 215173 EPOXYShield Concrete Patch, 24-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been researching for an effectives crack repair for the basement floor for some time. Have numerous cracks due to water pressure that are getting worse with every heavy rain. I didn't want just a caulk, but something that would add strength to the joint as well. This hardens to be stronger that the concrete itself. Took a grinder and cleaned out the cracks, mixed it up in batches and troweled it in. Cured in a couple of days and have had high water a couple of times now and the basement is staying dry. Recommended.
