5.0 out of 5 stars Dave and Dave Kick a** again!
It's so great to see Dave Ellefson back in Megadeth! Sure, Dave Mustaine's hired some talented bassists over the years, but a 20th anniversary Rust in Peace tour just wouldn't have been the same without Ellefson. It would have lacked authenticity. The "real" Megadeth, in my mind, has always had both Daves in it.

As for the music, this is an exciting live set...

1.0 out of 5 stars One star earned for dubbed vocals - pretty weak Mustaine
Let me start by saying I love Megadeth. I love Rust in Peace. I loved this show
(saw it live in Buffalo back in February). Dave's vocals were just fine during that show. So why the dubbed vocals on the "live" dvd and cd? If I wanted to here Dave singing the songs in a recording studio I would throw in my 1990 copy of Rust in Peace. Does Dave think we are stupid or...

As for the music, this is an exciting live set. "Rust in Peace" stands head and shoulders above the rest of Megadeth's catalogue - which says a lot, as "Countdown to Extinction," "Endgame," and "United Abominations" are all also great. The live renditions here of "Peace Sells" and "Symphony of Destruction" are also superb - especially knowing that the man who gave birth to "Peace Sells"'s classic bass riff is back in the fold! I don't know what's happened since this tour, but I hope the Daves stick it out for another studio album.

I'm a huge megadeth fan and I believe RUST IN PEACE is one of the best albums Mustaine & Co. have ever recorded. This live version (including the bonus tracks) sounds incredible. It's a essential album for all heavy metal/hard rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds better than ever!!, September 8, 2010

This review is from: Rust In Peace: Live (Audio CD)
I've always been a huge Megadeth fan, but ironically I was one of the very few who wasn't really crazy about 'Rust in Peace.' Don't get me wrong I did like tracks that of course are considered classics such as "Holy Wars.." & "Hangar 18" but even those tracks tend to drag on & probably could have been better if they were shortened a bit but that's just my take on it. Anyway, a few years back Dave Mustaine remastered 'Rust in Peace' & truth be told I was very impressed but it still wasn't enough to really win me over. Here we are now with 'Rust in Peace Live' & WOW..BIG DIFFERENCE!! Megadeth truly brings this album to a whole new level live as the music is heavier & just plain sounds well produced (unlike the original as we all know!) What really brings this album to 5 stars for me is the extra SIX bonus tracks as they sound even better than ever & is a good mix of tracks from back in the day (I wish there was a Youthanasia track though.) If you are like me or you already liked 'Rust in Peace' don't pass this up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not overdubbed Vocals, September 21, 2010
This review is from: Rust In Peace: Live (Audio CD)
I've been hearing a lot of commotion on the internet that Dave had overdubbed the vocals from the original Rust in Peace album onto this one. After doing a side by side comparison of Tornado of Souls its obvious that these are not the same vocal tracks from the original album (on the album he ends the verses with an upward inflection on the live its a downward inflection specifically at around the 0:27 point).

The fact that people are believing that the vocals are overdubbed is just proof that Dave's still got it! All of the songs sound amazing. However I do have a couple gripes about the album:

1. Chris's guitar is mixed way too low, this is especially evident in Five Magics during the guitar solos between verses.

2. The Choice of Bonus songs: With the exception of Skin O' My Teeth every "bonus" song is on Rude Awakening. and while I understand Peace Sells, Darkest Hour, and Symphony are requirements of any Megadeth concert and therefore would belong on any live album from Megadeth, it'd be nice to get live versions of songs from United Abominations or Endgame instead of getting yet another rehash of Trust. However, the inclusion of Five Magics and the song Rust in Peace more than make up for it.

All in all the performance is still amazing and that's what matters. Every song on here is in perfect form, and that's why you should buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album...awesome show, October 12, 2010

I saw Megadeth for the first time way back when this album was released...yes, I am an old bastard...and to hear these tracks, which are arguably the best collection of Mustaine songs assembled on the one album is a world of awesomeness. Broderick's solos are as authentic as possible and it's great to hear Ellefson thumping away with the band again. The main attraction for me is that with all really good live albums, the crowd noise-the screams, the swells of excitment, the raptuous sing-a-longs, are all here without ever being obtrusive or distracting. It feels like your're in the pit screaming along with the band...which creates an intimacy that many live albums can't muster. And the performances from Mustaine and Co. are impeccable.

A great performance is featured on this CD which captures the band live in Los Angeles. Performing one of their best albums in it's entirety RUST IN PEACE. Also included is a set of other notable Megadeth classics. This concert is also available on DVD as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Megadeth album... LIVE, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rust In Peace: Live (Audio CD)
Rust in Peace was the very first album I bought with my own money, I listened to it every day pretending I was Dave Mustaine playing air guitar and screaming the lyrics, and I always thought most of the songs were impossible to play live, and it turns out I wasn't so wrong. For years Megadeth has been performing just a bunch of songs from this album, leaving some of the fan favorites out of their live sets. Well that ended in 2010, when they announced they would be playing the whole album live, This CD compiles the last USA performance of the "Rust in Peace 20th Anniversary Tour", and no matter what haters said, this CD is GREAT. The actual performance was different as Rust In Peace is performed in the middle of the show (3 songs - Rust in Peace album - 4 songs), in this CD, you get the album first and as bonus tracks the rest of the songs performed that night (minus The Right to Go Insane).

For any Megadeth fan this is a must-have, I also had the chance to see them live here in Venezuela where they performed the same set and this CD reminds me a lot of that great night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Live Show, October 20, 2010

Megadeth always puts on a great performance and this is a great example. When you think live metal show you probally expect a lot of unclarity or distortion but not with this cd. It sounds very crisp and clear. And definitely a collector for those true Megadeth fans. Lucretia is one of my all time favorites and they did a great job. Dave is definitely master of his domain!!
