A Well-written & Realistic Horse Story,
This review is from: Rusty: The High-Flying Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
I read Rusty some time ago, finishing it in approximately one day because I could not put it down!!! It was a wonderful book, and I really enjoyed it.
This book is third in the Morgan Horse series by Ellen F. Feld, and continues the story of Heather Richardson and her horses Blackjack and Frosty. Frosty is expecting a foal, who is born at the beginning of the novel. As Heather raises "Shadow" and continues to work with her other horses, she branches out and begins jumping. Her friend Laura helps her, and Heather's mount is the talented gelding Rusty. The pair soon enter the exciting world of show jumping, seeking to qualify for the Tri-County Jump-Off. Rusty and Laura came close to winning this event years ago, and Heather is determined that she and Rusty will win this time! Then Heather notices that her foal, Shadow, is developing crooked legs. She will require surgery to fix them. This becomes an exciting subplot to the story. Heather also makes a new friend, Nicholas, who is aiming for the Jump-Off as well. They train together and help each other, until, at the very last moment, a hoof abscess and another accident may keep them both out of the competition! The thing I enjoyed most while reading this book was its realism. The author obviously knows horses well. The horses' personalities and the events that happen are described excellently. The book is also very educational on subjects such as foal-raising, jumping, showing, and general horse care. I jump with my own horse, who, like Rusty and Heather, knows way more than I do about it!! I was really able to relate to everything that happened to Heather as she perfected her jumping skills. It made Rusty a very enjoyable read for me. Many lessons about friendship and good sportsmanship are woven into the story as well. This whole series is made up of very realistic and entertaining horse stories. I would highly recommend this and the two preceding books, and I hope the series continues!!!!

This is a great horse story for the younger horse set (9-12 years old). It's very realistic. The main character is learning as she rides, and author Ellen Feld sneaks life's lessons in without you even realizing it. Highly recommended for young horsemen.

I had a friend in high school who loved horses and by loved I mean LOVED HORSES. They were all over her room and last I heard she was working with a Veterinarian so I guess it worked out. As soon as I heard I was receiving this book to review I thought of her and wished we had stayed in better touch so I could pass this book on to her.
Rusty: The High-Flying Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) is the third book in Ellen F. Feld's Morgan Horse Series. A cute book, well written which made it easy to get into the characters. I think a bit of it was lost on me because I don't know that much about horses and don't share my friend's LOVE of them. I think any child that is into horses boy or girl would like reading this series. These books could be the fuel that takes a spark that is a love for horses and turns it into a lifelong passion to own, preserve and care for horses in adulthood.

An excellent book!,
This review is from: Rusty: The High-Flying Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
As a young girl I was totally in love with horses and as an adult I still love horses! This is an excellent book! There are so many lessons to be learned in this book about a girl and her Morgan horses. There are lessons about friendship, not judging others and good sportsmanship. I loved the interaction between Heather and her horses. One of the great things about this book is that it actually teaches you something about the care of the horses. I would recommend this for any horse lover and I will definitely be picking up more of the books in this series by this author.

A nice addition to the Morgan horse series. The continuing story of Heather and with the addition of Nickolas another horse owner who shares with Heather her love of Mogans.

A Kid's Review

This is my favorite book from the Morgan series. I like to jump my horse so I could really relate to the people in this book that like to jump. Heather gets nervous at a show and I had that happen too. I couldn't wait to see what happened at the big show at the end. It was great.

Once again, Ellen Feld has written a wonderful tale for readers young and old. The third in her series, from the first page Feld brings to life Heather Richardson and her Morgans and friends. I'm sorry I didn't have books like these to read when I was a young reader! A pure delight!

Ellen Feld has found a niche and her craftsmanship gets better by the book......so you'd better buy this book.
Her characters are exactly who I'd like my grandchildren to be. They are delightful, unspoiled and have great values........and it's those values, preached from an accessible pulpit of horsemanship, that make her books the more valuable for parents to support. Ms. Feld has built a base of characters with whom the reader becomes engaged and is interested in knowing more about. I'm sure that as further books are written, we will learn more about Heather and Nicholas..........who they are outside the world of stables and horse shows......and, to this, I look forward. It's wonderful to watch a young writer develop.

Rusty by Ellen Feld,
This review is from: Rusty: The High-Flying Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
Ellen Feld has done it again! "Rusty" is a fantastic book that introduces new friends and a new style of riding. Heather now has a different set of goals to achieve with yet another lovable Morgan. Ellen does a fantastic job at not only creating a riveting plot but explaining the difference in riding styles and types of horses. In reading this book you get an informative lesson on horses and riding that never gets boring unlike other books that tend to get off track from the actual story. This book teaches about winning and losing and how it doesn't really matter as long as you had fun and achieved your own personal goals along the way which is something both children and adults tend to forget. Another great book Ellen Feld!
