Ruth is another of Copeland's Brides of the West. She was one of the original orphans who were brought to Colorado under false pretenses. She must find a way to support herself but does not want to accept the romantic advances of a man nearly old enough to be her grandfather. However, knowing she can never bear children, she feels her chances of a normal marriage are slim. Setting out to force the marshal to take her to Wyoming, she finds her deception almost kills them both.

This book had lots of depth, good Christian morals and plenty of suspense and romance. I loved Ruth, the marshal and an Indian baby named Rose.

Another great one for Lori! As usual I found myself totally involved in her characters! Ruth riding Bret was a hoot! After Faith, Hope,June and Glory, I am a Lori Copeland fan. Can't wait to find out about Patience. If you want a GREAT Christian book that is not "preachy", but full of humor, and faith sit down with Copeland!

Lori Copeland's delightful mix of romance, sensitivity, and light humor always serves up a "keeper" book! Ruth is no exception. Wonderful characters, great storytelling--readers can't ask for more!

Keep them coming, Lori Copeland!

2.0 out of 5 stars I loved Faith Hope and June..., March 19, 2003

I was so excited to see this newest Brides of the West ... My sister and I both wondered if this was the same Lori Copeland who wrote Faith, Hope and June (and Glory). Ruth just dragged on and on, it was so shallow and repetitive. This series, while not Pulitzer Prize material, has delivered some good laughs and fun stories. But Ruth struggled. I don't want to ruin what story there is but here's the jist: Ruth can't have children, falls in love AND finds a baby in need, then spends the rest of the book wondering if today was the day they would die trying to get to shelter. Pages and pages of "if we don't make it today I just don't know what will become of us". And the romance was too forced and too fast. Nothing unpredictable. I guess if I hadn't enjoyed the other books in the series so much, this one might do but be sure you don't skip those in favor of this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Story of Endurance, April 17, 2003

This review is from: Ruth (Brides of the West #5) (HeartQuest) (Paperback)
This is a story of adventure, romance, comedy and lots of other emotions. I loved the book once I got about 1/3rd the way through. The main characters, Ruth and Marshall McCall make a trip through freezing weather and injured bodies. They also have another person they are responsible for during the trip. The book tells of the events and trials the couple endures along the way. Ruth turns to God for her strength due to a strong faith she possesses. She does what she can to convince Mcall that God loves him and cares what happens to him. He has a hard time believing her because of his rearing by a woman that preached hell and damnation and not the love of God. Ruth is to be admired for her determination, strength, endurance, and her faith in God to take her through anything this life deals to her.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok book but not as good as the previous 4, April 14, 2007

This review is from: Ruth (Brides of the West #5) (HeartQuest) (Paperback)
I was really excited to start this book because I loved Faith, Hope, June and Glory and this book started out really good but, eventually, it fell flat. I agree with others that the romance was too sudden and the wandering in the woods went on and on. The other thing that really bothered me was that I started to notice that the story wasn't matching up with the previous books. Dylan talks about remembering Ruth teaching Glory how to read, Dylan wasn't around when Glory was learning to read. There are many other cases but I don't want to ruin the story. This book is still a good read. Lets be honest, Copeland isn't the best writer, or maybe she just needs a better editor, but the story is still entertaining. If I hadn't enjoyed Glory I probably would have read this book but I did want to know what happen to the other girls

2.0 out of 5 stars Ruth, January 7, 2006
This review is from: Ruth (Brides of the West #5) (HeartQuest) (Paperback)
The cover design is attractive, and first chapter of this book is well written, but the rest of it is highly implausible and a bit boring. I got the strong impression that no editor was involved in the publishing of this book. The author seems to have a strong following of readers, so maybe some of her other books are worth reading, but not this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars After Just Finishing Glory,Ruth Freaked Me Out Because Of The Changes!, August 12, 2008
This review is from: Ruth (Brides of the West #5) (HeartQuest) (Paperback)
I had just finished reading Glory, and went straight into reading Ruth, and I was like "HUH, did the author totally forget how she ended the previous book"!

In Glory,Ruth has acknowledged to herself that she cares for Marshal McCall, and lets him know it as he is leaving. In this book, she is even more antagonistic to him than she was previously, and even weirder is that he hasn't even left yet,and the character of Ruth is changed so much, that there is no similarity to the kind of woman she was in the first 4 books!

There is so much of a difference it is like a totally different author wrote Ruth! Someone who had no previous knowledge or feel for who Ruth had been in the other books, and this Ruth is a stranger, nothing like the woman we came to know in the first 4 books!

I have never come across this experience in reading a series before, where a major character and so much background information changed so much 4 books into the series. I cannot believe that this book was written by the same author. Also,If I'm remembering correctly, between Glory and Ruth we get 3 different accounts of the history of Ruth being left at the orphanage? First a beautiful Indian maiden left her there as an infant, then, her adoptive father Mr. Norris left her there as an older child, after his wife died, then back again to being told she was left as an infant, except this time,2 Indian Braves took her there!I'm so confused!

I will definitely NOT READ the last book in this series "Patience"!

Glory was a great read, but I should have stopped there, because Ruth does not feel like a continuation in any way! Reading this book just left me feeling really weird.
