If you have not read a book by Danielle Girard this is a good time to start and "Ruthless Game" is the book to buy. It is well written, with the perfect mix of mystery, suspense and even some romance. Alex Kincaid is an appealing heroine and her story is so compelling that I guarantee you will not put this book down until the final page.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put down Ruthless Game!, June 18, 2001

I loved this book. I enjoyed Savage Art but Ruthless Game is even better! If you are looking for a book filled with intrigue, plot twists, suspense and secrets, you'll enjoy Ruthless Game.

The protagonist, a female cop named Alex Kincaid, faces confusion and tension as she simultaneously runs from and chases someone who is trying to frame her for a murder she didn't commit. Or did she? She has blacked out and doesn't really know what she has done. The plot continues to weave and build suspense as the story unfolds. It keep me engaged throughout the entire story.

I can't wait for the next Danielle Girard novel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, March 3, 2002

This was my first Danielle Girard book and it will not be my last. The story moves along at a good pace, the main character is very likable, and I did not guess who the "bad guy" was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down..., August 5, 2001

I didn't think that it was possible, but Danielle Girard's second book, "Ruthless Game" is even better than her first.

The story of rookie cop Alex Kincaid, trapped in a living nightmare and set in the San Francisco Bay area, kept me on the edge of my seat for days. I couldn't put the book down. Girard tells the story with authority and intelligence; two qualities embodied in her heroine. The plot is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end... and believe me, you'll NEVER guess.

I can't recommend this book enough. If you're hungry for a suspenseful and thrilling mystery, this is a 'must-read'. Girard is definitely an author to watch. I can't wait for her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perplexing But Riveting Mystery, June 15, 2001
This review is from: Ruthless Game (Paperback)
This is Danielle Girard's second book and it's another book stacked with suspense and intrigue from the outset. The protagonist, police officer Alex Kincaid, inexplicably wakes up in her car after taking sleeping pills to combat insomnia. She has no idea how she came to be there. She later gets a call to attend the scene of a homicide. The scene is the place where she woke up that morning. It gradually becomes clear that she was there around the time of the murder and through a flashback, realises that she has met the victim.

This is an enjoyable and at times perplexing mystery that has introduced Alex Kincaid and is, hopefully, just the first of many books featuring her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating Game, July 5, 2001

Ruthless Game was so engrossing that I missed my BART stop. Engaging characters and tight plotting electrified my curiosity and kept me reading all night long. Danielle Girard creates a tough, no-nonsense protagonist in cop Alex Kincaid. Nevertheless, we see enough of Kincaid to know that she's being forced to suppress any warmer side she might have. She's caught in a tightening vice that threatens to destroy her professionally, if not wipe her out totally. As for whodunnit? I guessed wrong - and loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful thriller, June 12, 2001
This review is from: Ruthless Game (Paperback)
When she awakens, Berkeley rookie police officer Alex Kincaid wonders if she somehow sleep-drove to Yolo Avenue because she is currently in her car not near her home. An insomniac under medicine, Alex races to work bewildered by what happened to her last night. She and her partner Greg Roback soon receive a call to investigate a situation on Yolo Avenue right where she slept last evening. When they arrive, the two cops find murdered attorney William Loefler.

Greg finds Alex's earring on the crime scene floor, thinks it just fell off, and returns it to her. However, other evidence mounts that shows Alex was at the scene of the crime around the time the murder occurred. Alex is shocked because he is a stranger who happened to call her name that afternoon before he was killed. Now she must solve a case in which she is the prime suspect.

RUTHLESS GAME is a strong police procedural starring an intrepid but clearly bewildered heroine, who cannot remember the night before because of a prescription drug. The story line is fast-paced yet builds to an exciting climax by allowing the police to do their job. Readers will want more novels starring Alex, as Danielle Girard knows how to keep the suspense so high the audience never leaves until the book is finished.
