5.0 out of 5 stars Any N.W.A fan shouldn't be without it
In my opinion, MC Ren was the star of N.W.A., and this Cd shows a different side of him. The music on here is much slower than N.W.A., but his lyrical skills haven't faded a bit. I am not even that much of a hip hop fan, and this is one of the few releases that I really enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars GANGSTA RELIC
mc rens raps on the nwa albums were powerful and fresh. on his solo debut, 92s EP "kiss my black ass", he combined brutal raps with bone crushing beats to create a classic album.

his follow up full length albums were commercially disappointing, but musically solid. 93s "shock of the hour" had funky beats and political raps, whereas 96s "villain in black" was a more...

4.0 out of 5 stars Da Villain is Back, December 9, 2004

This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
Back one more time for one part of the world's most dangerous crew, N.W.A. MC Ren delivers what he is known for, simple lyrics that are vulgar (to say the least), and that's what made him famous in the late 80's, so why switch? Straight gangsta in his lyrics through th ewhole album. Lyrically he is average but he tells good tales and he's vulgar. Beats are pretty good on the album and are handled by 8 different producers (most notably LT Hutton & Ant Banks). Has 4 of the 12 songs with guests. No classics but no weak tracks, one can listen from track 1 to 12 without skipping a song. A must have album for his fans.

#1 - 7.5
#2 - 8 (f/ eigthball & MJG)
#3 - 8
#4 - 8 (f/ ice cube)
#5 - 8.5 (slow relaxing beat)
#6 - 8 (dark beat)
#7 - 8 (f/ snoop dogg & rbx -- good beat)
#8 - 9 (f/ tha chill of CMW --- good beat -- maybe the best song on the album)
#9 - 8.5
#10 - 9
#11 - 9 (f/ peeps)
#12 - 8

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest rap album... but majorly under-rated, November 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
MC Ren, along with Ice Cube, and Warren G, have the best voices and flows in the world of hip-hop. This album is well produced with a good amount of great songs. "Ruthless For Life," "Comin' After You," and "CPT All Day," are the best songs on this CD, but on whole it's great. Although this CD isn't a five star album, (In my oppinion) Ren's Greatest Hits CD will be a keeper 4 sho!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great comeback for one of the hardest!, March 19, 1999
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
Is there a doubt that MC Ren is one of the most ruthless and hardcore rappers out there in the music industry? Is there a better rapper to put on a song if you want it to sound gangsta as fu**? The answe to both questions is no. MC Ren is a legend, and he's been that way ever since his N.W.A. days. The boy's got heat! His last album "The Villain in Black" was in 1995 and on this one MC Ren comes out strong as ever, with some high quality production!.... He throws a lot of disses to new rappers and the industry itself, keeps representing the CPT and also has a few gangsta lines to drop about the streets and them ho*s. The production is smooth gangsta rap held by LT Hutton, T-Mixx, Ant Banks and others. Featured rappers are MJG, Eightball, Snoop Doggy Dogg, RBX, Big Rocc, Peeps and the Chill. This is a classic album by one of the gangsta rap pioneers, who has done this for about 10 years. On second thought, this album is a clear 5 stars deserving album, but I can't change the rating. Anyway, if you're into gangsta rap, the real- the hard sh**, there's no way you won't like (or even love) this album. I mean, Ren's baritone voice is just untouchable, and the beats they used on the album were amazing. One of the last great albums Ruthless Records released and probably Ren's last one. Don't miss that.

5.0 out of 5 stars MC Ren way too underrated., March 18, 2004
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
I just got this album today here in Australia. It is the sh*t. MC ren is sooo underrated it isn't funny, he was the most consistent rapper in nwa always dropping bombs and doesnt get the respect he deserves. The 1st track is off the hook and the rest is great too. BUY THIS CD.

What I Don't Get Is Why All The Other Members Of N.W.A Are Still Famous (Not Including DJ Yella), It Seems That No-One Gives A S**t About Ren Anymore. Eazy & Dre Are A Bit Better Than Ren. But I Think That Ren Is Just As Good (If Not, Better) Than Cube. This Is An Awesome Album. I've Wanted An MC Ren Album for Ages. I Just Bought This One Over The Internet For $4.95 American Dollars. I Am So Happy That I Bought This. MC Ren (Along With DJ Quik And The Lady Of Rage) Is One Of The Most Underrated Rappers Ever. If You Are A Big MC Ren Fan Like I Am, Then Buy This Album, To Show Ren That He Still Has Fans Who Love Him And His Music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Villain In Black Returns Fo The 9Eight, March 28, 2007
By
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
MC Ren comes back for his fourth album just 2 years after The Villain In Black. Unfortunately, this is the only album of his I have as of Mar. 2007. But I gotta say it knocks all the way thru. Ren still kicks those tales of his Compton set just like he did with NWA. Even though he reps CPT to the fullest, the beats are just as Bay Area, and even Down South, as they are LA. Ant Banks laces fire on "N---a Called Ren," and "All The Same" with those melodic space boogie beats he's well known for. T-Mixx, of Suave House fame in Texas and Memphis creates heat on 3 songs (1/4 the album!): 1)"Who In The F---" (f/ 8Ball/MJG), 2)"Voyage To Compton"(what an awesome laid-back G-Funk smoker), and 3) "Must Be High." All Three slap with that down south funk flava. LT Hutton, Young Tre, Tha Chill, and a few others lace up some L.A. Flava on the remainder of the album. The beats are G-Funk with a syrupy taste. The production for the most part is awesome, even though I am not crazy about the beat on "So Whatcha Want." Ren still kills all the tracks with that gangsta flow. Definitely worth the scrill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic For Life, December 19, 2006
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
You guys really didnt like this album? OK. Even though this album was the last album Ive heard from Mc Ren, I was not dissapointed with it at all. In fact I'll show you how much Im not dissapointed with it. Standout Tracks: RUTHLESS FOR LIFE, WHO IN THE F***(killer collabo with 8ball& MJG), COMIN AFTER YOU(solid connection with Ice Cube), VOYAGE TO COMPTON(I swear the guy on the hook sounds like Ronald Isley), MUST BE HIGH, SO WATCHA WANT, WHO GOT THAT STREET S***, PIMPIN IS FREE(minus Peeps wack verse), CPT ALL DAY(crazy song to end a good album with). Filler: Shot Caller is the only song Im not too fond of. Complaints: No conscious songs on here like Mc Ren had on his other albums. Bottom Line: Great production, great lyrics and songs that have a strong replay value. Ruthless For Life is a classic minus what the these trash ragazines have to say about it. Mc Ren's punchlines and barbs are humorous whille he bashes rap clones into submission. Case in point:/Them n***as be bitchin cause I wont let em on my team/ and give em a title like Hakeem/ I peel their caps like tangerines/LOL! I would still listen to this album any day regardless of how The Sauce(XXL clone)and XXLAX(The Source clone, confusing isnt it?) feels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tha Villian STRIKKEZ BACKK!!!, January 31, 2004
By
This review is from: Ruthless for Life (Audio CD)
Ruthless for life was an important album for MC REN , espeasically with the passing of Eazy-E , no one was for sure about the future of Ruthless Records. Alot of the artist's left the lable after Eazy's death and some chosed to stay down with the ship and MC REN was one of those who chosed to stay down with Ruthless a lable which he help put on the map along with his city of COMPTON as well. REN kept it real in the rap game and he continues to do so till this very day , Althoug his record sales aren't nowhere near where they were when he was with N.W.A., REN still has the skills to go head up with the best of them , HELLO!!!
