4.0 out of 5 stars B+ rated book... May 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
My Review:
I really am enjoying this series. It's simply a fun group of contemporary romances set around the Nashville music scene. This book was Marisa and Luc's story. Marisa is sister and stylist to country superstar Trey (hero from book #1) and Luc is his manager.

Luc grew up in an unhappy home. His parents didn't have a good marriage, because his father was too focused on making his career a success at the sacrifice of everything else. Luc is self-aware enough to realize that he's a lot like his father that way. As a result, he never plans to marry or have children because he has no intention of hurting anyone the way his father hurt him and his mother. Unfortunately, you can plan all you want in life, but you can't control your emotions especially when it comes to love.

Marisa dated Luc for two years and has loved him her entire adult life. But she finally realized that he was never going to be able to give her what she needs....marriage and a family and has been struggling to give up on her love for Luc. She knows that her love for Luc overrides everything else when she's around him, including her common sense so she's tried to cut her ties to him, but that's not easy to do when they have the same circle of work associates and friends.

There's a lot of back and forth in this book with the emotional upheaval. Marisa has been patient long enough and she's flat-out given up on Luc. Luc loves her and cannot stand the thought of being without her, but knows that he will just hurt her in the end. Honestly, he's really sacrificing himself to keep her from getting hurt, but they are both too far gone. Staying apart at this point is just hurting both of them, but Luc is terrified to give into their love.

There was a series of momentous events in this book that changes Luc's perspective. I'm not going to give any spoilers except to say that I loved the way that the author wrote this story line. It works and it works well. This was another truly enjoyable installment to this series. I continue to like all of these characters.

The next book is Ty (an up and coming country star) and Avery. They are both introduced in this book with a few brief hints at a past they've shared. I already love Ty's character, but am not so sure about Avery yet. Regardless, I am anxious to see where Cheryl takes the series next!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but pretty meh July 6, 2012

Maybe it is that I came in the middle of the series, but this book seemed kinda grr. I hated both of the main characters and many of the supporting characters, the back and forth of it all just got exhausting. I guess I have a hard time believing two middle aged adults would go back and forth with all this drama.**SPOILER ALERT** I also hate when books end with a proposal, this is the third proposal of the book but THIS ONE is the ending. They have so much to figure out in their relationship and their life, but this is the end of their story. I don't think I will ever read another book by this author, but I have read plenty worse. It's not a bad way to spend a few hours, if you like drama, under-developed characters, and a story with a lot of missing/ mismatched information. I'm a firm believer that books in a romance series should stand alone, the other books add depth, but one book really tells a good story. This is not that kind of book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ruthless........not my "cup of tea"......... July 26, 2012

Ruthless, I'm sorry to say, did not interest me at all.....the back and forth, back and forth, back and forth....you get the picture......between Marisa and Luc is tedious......could be that I expect too much.....if you want to read a light romance with no expectations, this is the one for you.

More About the Author

Cheryl began her professional career as a nutritionist, but her love of books started at an early age. She studied writing for many years before she decided to pursue her passion as a full-time career. After receiving constructive criticism from several well-known authors, Cheryl finally had the confidence to write her first romance novel.

The first book in the Nashville Nights series, Shameless, was a book that had been dwelling in Cheryl's subconscious for years. For her, the surprise came when the manuscript began taking on a life of it's own. Characters came to life, secondary characters became more prominent, outlines were forgotten, and a single title evolved into an eight book series, and another eight book spin-off series entitled Nashville Nights, Next Generation.

One word would aptly describe Cheryl: workaholic. She lives and breathes her writing, when she's sleeping, watching TV, driving, reading... it's always in the periphery of her mind. Her imagination rarely takes a holiday, even when she escapes to a sandy beach with her husband and son, she's planning, plotting, outlining, and daydreaming.

Cheryl feels blessed to be able to get up every day and do something she loves. The thousands of fans who have embraced the Nashville Nights have made that possible. She writes for the readers who ask for more, she writes to satisfy the muse residing inside of her, but most of all, she writes because she couldn't imagine doing anything else with her life. It took her thirty-seven years to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up, but now that she knows, she's convinced she's found her purpose.
