I acheived a good seal by installing this gasket tape on the base of the egg only.

I used this kit to replace the factory seal on my large Big Green Egg ceramic smoker/griller. I acheived a good seal by installing this gasket tape on the base of the egg only. The tape is a little long so you can bunch it up as you glue it down. This makes the seal thicker and able to cover any high or low spots where the lid meets the base. This fiberglass gasket seems more tolerant of the high heat encountered while searing steaks than the original felt seal. It is "eggcellent!"

After reading numerous reviews on several Big Green Egg Blogs, I knew this was the solution to the felt seal issue. Use the Rutland gasket and "Permatex High-temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket Maker" (available at any Autozone stores). I do not recommend using the adhesive that comes in this kit because it does not support the higher temperures the BGE is capable of. The gasket is what you want and well worth the money. Just make sure you have a super sharp blade and cut the gasket on a 45 degree bias to mate the ends well.

The key word used here to describe this product that the buyer needs to be aware of is "gasket kit TAPE". This product, while being 5/8" wide as advertised is only 3/16" thick, thus the term TAPE is used. Other common stove gaskets are a "rope" style and are a full 5/8 inch diameter, a much heavier material than this "tape". The two styles in most cases would not be interchangeable. This new lightly woven 5/8" gasket tape is easily compressed to 1/8" with light pressure, while my old worn out rope style gasket is still a solid 1/4 inch under firm pressure.

This may be a useful product, however I deducted 4 stars because the manufacturer does not clearly specify the thickness of their product, leading to some confusion as to what is actually in the package. It would not be hard to clearly label the length, width and thickness of the material. Even those needing a generic tape style stove gasket replacement would want to know its thickness before purchase.

I bought this gasket to replace the old one on my Big Green Egg. It works much better than the original gasket that came with it. There is a video on-line that is a must see if you plan to use this on the Egg. I highly reccomend it for this purpose.

I used this gasket to replace the burned out gasket on my large Big Green Egg. This is the exact kit that is recommended by people who provide step-by-step online directions for installing a replacement Rutland Gasket. This exact kit can be difficult to find so buy is here and now if you come across this review. Worked perfectly and this gasket is much better than the BGE alternative.

The Rutland Gasket Kit Tape seal set works very well as a gasket on the doors of the Brinkmann Vertical charcoal Smoker.

The gasket works great once installed. The instructions point out that the surface must be sanded down to the metal for the adhesive to stick which turned out to be more work than expected. The glue was difficult to get out of the tube with any consistency. I ended up squeezing out little blobs and spreading with my gloved finger. After heating up the smoker to cure the glue I found a spot where the gasket was not sticking to the surface. I applied more glue which they give an adequate supply and closed the door, waited the recommended drying time and heat cured the glue without opening the door during the cooling process. I let the smoker cool completely before opening to check the seal and the gasket was bonded nicely. You may want to open the door slowly while freeing any parts of the gasket sticking to the opposing surface with a puddy knife or a flathead screwdriver. Once completed the gasket does all that I hoped it would.
The gasket makes a tight seal and reduces the amount of fuel needed to maintain temperature.

I am hesitate to do things I have not done before. But when my chimney sweep showed up, he said he "forgot" the gasket. I told him to get back on the truck. You do not show up and do 1/2 a job. I ordered the kit. I went to YouTube and entered "replace wood stove gasket" I watched a couple of times and took it on. I followed the instructions. I used a flat head screw driver to scrap down to the iron. I used air to blow off the filings. I applied the cement then wipe the access with my finger. I laid in the gasket. I pressed it into the channel around the door. I put it back on the stove and heated to 500 degrees as recommend. I checked it the next day to find a perfect fit, better than the original. If I can do it, you can do it!Just a little add on. After I did this gasket, I noticed the gasket on the ash drawer was loose. Within the kit there is enough gasket material to do the lower door. That will be my next project. Remember the more secure your gaskets are the hotter your stove will burn and the more efficiently it will run. I am pleased that this kit allowed me to learn a new skill. I know it's not a big deal but anything I can do to improve my self worth really helps. Being disabled I cannot do the things I used to do. So every little bit helps.
