When the camera is turned off, it is not a clear mirror. It's just like when the TV screen is off in your house and you can see the reflection of the room only when there are lights on in the room. Plus it has a blue tint. I just got it installed today and the camera fogged up on the way home. Also, right out of the box, there was some sort of chemical reaction on the lens. It's hard to explain but the guy who installed it said he had to take it apart and scrub for 10 minutes to clear it up, and it's still not completely gone. I could have spent half the money on a much nicer camera and just had it hooked up to my dvd player. HUUUGE rip off
