Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The sweet earnestness of middle-aged narrator Ruthie Kantor Morris makes this an appealing if unexciting cozy. Ruthie manages the pharmacy at a supermarket in Scottsdale, Ariz. After two years as a widow, she is beginning to think about men again. Starring in her fantasies is a customer who dies suddenly after mixing his over-the-counter decongestant with either his prescription for hair restoration or his formula for potency enhancement (he recently married a much younger woman). As Ruthie investigates what turns out to be murder, mystery-genre coincidence joins romance cliche as an old flame shows up, just in time to be another suspect. Bland but believable characters and workplace atmosphere join with slow-paced predictability to make this a good choice for bedtime reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Straight-forward Murder Mystery, May 1, 1999
This review is from: Rx for Murder (Paperback)
This book has been on my shelf for more than a year. My mother-in-law had given it to me and I just hadn't gotten around to reading it yet. But I'm glad I finally did. (I noticed it is out-of-print now). The plot is fairly straight-forward with the sleuth this time, a practicing pharmacist. The pharmacy scenes are very realistic based on my own experience working in similar settings. Also, I have spent some time in Scottsdale and Tuscon and so felt comfortable with the realism. The mystery itself seemed to me to be somewhat predictable, though I won't give away any plot points. Worth the read, especially for the pharmacy angle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, May 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rx for Murder (Paperback)
Normally I don't like murder books but this is a great one. A man dies that has just recently been married to a woman thats much younger than him. Everyone suspects her (the wife) because they have been arguing over something lately, .....
You follow Ruthie a pharmacist along on her daily job rountine and encounter many interesting events. Some of them are major clues to what might be going on with the mans death, and some of the major clues may be right under her nose.
You really should read this book.
