A Decent Follow-up to a Great Album,
By Pheonix Blood (NYC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ruff Ryders 2 (Audio CD)
While a great addition to the Ruff Ryder name, Vol. 2 simply lacks the booming, chant-like power of the first album (i.e. Down Bottom). Many of the songs have a weak chorus and a rather irrelavent title (such is the case with the song Two Tears In A Bucket). Hardcore rap fans can still appreciate the original greats like the LOX, Drag-on, and DMX. However, this time around, these big names play a signifigantly lesser role; instead, names like Yung Wun, Larsiny, and numerous guest appearances take their places. It's good to see Swizz Beats with at least one track, but still Vol. 2 lacks the powerful impression the first album left so well. Vol. 2 seems to be an album trying to slip in as many guest appearances as possible, but it certainly begs the listener to ask at least one question - since when were Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes Ruff Ryders? If anything, this album is a little bit of everything but not enough of the true spirit of the Double R, perhaps an over-collaboration of the biggest rap stars. All in all, blood in and blood out, Ruff Ryders Vol. 2 is still the hottest joint album to hit the streets since the original.

Ruff Ryders does it again,

After releasing two excellent efforts from DMX and Eve.. A pretty decent one from Drag-On.. A mediocre one from The Lox.. A mediocre Ruff Ryders Vol one Compliation that had a few moments.. I was a little skeptical getting this CD, A reviewer " James Highsmith" recommended me to buy this he said i would like it .. So i decided to get it and this cd is HOT .. Ruff Ryders comes back with one of their hottest efforts to date.. The difference between Vol one and Volume two.. Volume two concentrates more on the lesser known Ruff Ryders .. DMX and Eve appears on one track each Eve blazes on her track with Jadakiss Got It All.. DMX shows up on the some what disappointing track The Great .. Volume two has guest appearances from some of the hottest emcees today Snoop Dogg , Scarface, spits fire on one the hottest tracks on the CD with Ruff Ryders newest member Yung Wun, and LOX'S Jadakiss on the track WW III.. Swizz Beatz this time around produce only 5 tracks while the rest of his ruff ryders comrads produce the others.. Other hot tracks 2 Tears In A Bucket- Redman, Method Man, Sheek, Holiday- Styles, My favorite song on the whole cd Stomp- Trick Daddy & Yung Wun

Swizz needs to change hiz beatz!,
By Reign "Xplorer" (Endless Galaxy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ruff Ryders 2 (Audio CD)
I don't know how many times Swizz can use the same beats, but just add a different hook. Swizz snapped when he first came out, but after a while, you get tired of hearing the same thing over, and over again. He didn't hook DMX up on his last CD, and he f--cked-up Drag-on's debut album. He needs to change it up, or stop. I must admit that "Twisted Heat" by Twista & Drag-On is tyte, but Swizz needs some new Beatz.

Audio Garbage,

This review is from: Ruff Ryders 2 (Audio CD)
Collectively, Ruff Ryders are garbage. Individually, there are some of them that have some redeeming qualities. If you enjoy listening to mindless, monotonous rap lyrics about guns, drugs..., cars, and other ignorance that has become synonomous with hip-hop, then go right ahead and buy this album. I'm a picky listener. There are only a few MCs that I have respect for these days, and even fewer whose album I would even purchase. Most aren't even worthy of ordering through a CD club or buying used.Don't you hate it when an artist releases two or three singles, in order to make you want to buy the album, and then you purchase the album and find that there is nothing else worth listening to? Thats exactly what we have here. The two singles released to video and radio constitute the only tracks worth listening to. Its not very often that I purchase an album but when I do, it had better be good. I use the 50% rule. If at least half of the tracks have replay value and the other ones aren't too wack, I buy it. This album does not even meet the 20% rule. Swizz is a lazy you-know-what. All the beats on here were ones he came up with in a drunken stint in the studio and had the nerve to release. I would say that I've never heard such wackness but I'd be lying. It seems like the norm nowadays, put little to no effort into an album and just into one or two singles. I'll stop ranting and raving, and simply say this. There are only two good tracks and if you listen to the radio, you already heard them. All of the beats are weak and sound like they wound up on the album by accident. Lyrically, nobody really shines, except for Jada, at times. DMX, the Lox, Eve, Drag-On and the rest of the crew thoroughly disappointed me, then again, look at Volume I. There's not a whole lot worth buying these days but this is one of a few albums that I'm dead-set against. ...ITS WACK! AND IT AIN'T WORTH $10! ANYBODY WHO PURCHASES THIS ALBUM IS A BLIND CONSUMER! I REPEAT, SAVE YOUR MONEY, MY PEOPLE! INVEST OR SAVE, BUT DON'T WASTE IT ON THIS MONSTROSITY! But...if you have nothing better to spend your money on, and you want something to sit your drink on, then get yourself a $15 coaster.

Now, THIS isn't a good CD,
By Moby Dick (Belgium Antwerp) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ruff Ryders 2 (Audio CD)
Well, what do I got to say 'bout this cd? First of all, I want to say I don't give it one star but two is only because of the first track "WW3" with Snoop Dogg etc. ... That's the only good song on the whole album! This is really a wack album and a weak attempt from Swizz Beatz cause the beats don't sound right at all (exept for the first one) but there are songs like "Twisted Heat" wich could have been a LOT better if the beat was listenable cause damn.... Just like on "Ryde or Die vol.I" I like Drag-On the best, I think he's got a great future in the game but I think he should leave Ruff Ryders 'cause Swizz is gettin' kind of slow and he can't provide Drag with the beats he deserves... DMX' track isn't BAD eather however I don't think he tried his best! As the matter of fact, I don't think any of the Ruff Ryders tried their best! It's like an other reviewer said, they just take their songs wich aren't good enough to put them on their solo albums and of thos "bad" songs they make a compilation, "Ryde or Die" named... If you want my advice 'bout this album, don't buy it...

If Possible, even better than busta rhymes,

Ask any of my booyzzz and they'll tell you how PHAT I find this disc. And I'm a tough critic. Here's the conundrum that the disc poses: You must be rough, yet simultaneously a rider. It's mental gymnastics, but these philosopher-artists carry it off. From now on I will listen to nothing but ROUGH RIDERS when I am working on my doctoral thesis in nineteenth century german philosophy. The two go together like Dre and Snoop.

THIS CD IS GARBAGE,
This review is from: Ruff Ryders 2 (Audio CD)
I was very excited to by Ride or Die vol.2, but after listening to it, I was very disappointed. There is only one song by DMX ,, and the rest of the RUFF RYDER ROOKIES are weak. I wasted 13 dollars on this CD. vol.1, was tight but vol.2 is GARBAGE!

This Cd is absolutely amazing. The mix of Drag-On's flashy lyrics and DMX's hardcore style of rap this CD is a definete success! A new allieance is also formed which is announced on the CD which will integrate Busta Rhymes Flipmode Squad with the owners of the Album, the Ruff Ryders. This is a must have!
