5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Mix of Power, Emotion and Craft
Ryland Angel transcends all categories. These are one-of-a-kind songs wrapped around a voice that simmers, smokes and sets fire. Imagine a voice the the power of Freddy Mercury, the soul of George Michael and spirit of Brian Wilson. A dreamy quality resonates throughout. I would give this record to my daughter, my mother and my grandmother...

it's timeless,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but few charms
Mr. Angel is clearly lifting his voice to the Lord, and I respect that, but his songwriting is kind of weak. He has a lovely voice, and he uses it well, but the material leaves a great deal to be desired. The final song, a duet with a gorgeous soprano, is the reason I bought this album and I still can't get enough of it, but the rest of the album is quite bland.

it's timeless, stylish and quietly british. A remarkable sense of genius lurks inside these original songs of loss, forgiveness and love. Ryland Angel's debut gets my vote as the best album of the year so far...

God Bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for any serious music lover, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Ryland Angel (Audio CD)
I was fortunate enough to get to listen to an advance copy of this cd and it immediately became one of my favorite CDs in this genre. The quality of Mr. Angel's voice and the genuine emotions conveyed through his performance will cause any listener to hope that Mr. Angel's next CD will be released as soon as possible.

Ryland Angel Has A Terrific, Heaven Sent Voice That Brings The Songs He Sings To Life!! But His Voice Is Only A Part Of His Talent, He Is Also A Wonderful Songwriter. His "Absalom", "Broken Heart", "Your Kiss" & "By The Light" Are Simply Stunning!! His Versions Of "The Water Is Wide" & "Ave Maria" Are Beautiful. Be Sure To Check Out The "HEAVENLY VOICES" Dvd With Ryland, Giorgia Fumanti And Sasha & Shawna

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchase Absalom if you're not sure about the rest of the album, March 22, 2011
This review is from: Ryland Angel (MP3 Download)
I noticed a lot of the lower reviews appeared to be fairly nasty. I'm really surprised. I think the cd was pretty well done. For those that aren't sure, I would download Absalom, which for me is the best song on the CD, then decide if you like the style in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible CD, September 23, 2007

I had received this as a gift so I'm thankful I didn't pay any money for it as its just plain awful. There are times when I listen to a CD for the first time and I'll be initially disappointed but then after giving it another chance, most of the time I learn to like it. Not this one. I even gave it 3 or 4 chances. I gave it to 2 friends to see if they liked it, they said it was terrible and threw it in the trash. And these people know their music. If you have to buy it, get one of the used and new selections, because if you buy it new, you'll be wasting about $25.00.
Its really bad, trust me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Like a singing refrigerator, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Ryland Angel (Audio CD)
My impression of this album is that Ryland Angel knows everything about singing and nothing of what he is singing about. The stacked harmonies of his background overdubs are amazing, but his lead vocals are stiff, stiff, stiff. Take Broken Heart for example: "When you had left I stood, I was broken inside. It was like you were slowing down the beat of my heart." No, I'm sorry, but this just comes across as desciptive text for the emotionally impaired. What he should be singing is "When you left, you ripped my heart out!"

Each word is perfectly shaped (by far the best "was" I have ever heard), but the meaning of the words and the arc of the melody never make it off the printed sheet. These songs are like refrigerator magnet poetry; each word unconnected with the larger whole. Just move the magnets around and Ryland sings another sequence of pretty notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars serious pop from a real voice, March 21, 2007

This guy can sing. His songs are rich and lovely.

The lyrics are very substantial and at the same time easy to listen to the way a great pop song should be.

Like the others said, he sang very "cold" ,not meaning to me, not emotion.Besides his voice ,I didn't liked it.I own the Heavely voices DVD,and this guy doesn't transmite that "Magic" in the stage..But,the music is great.
