5.0 out of 5 stars Electric Wins Again
I have just spend the afternoon using this string trimmer for the first time, and I'm extremely satisfied. Two months ago I moved up from my little electric Weed Eater to a Homelite gas 2 cycle string trimmer: darned thing worked twice, then wouldn't start again! When it did run, the engine was awkward to position against my body, it stunk, and was bloody loud...

2.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from all-in-one items!
I purchased this item along with the edger, and blower attachments. The upper drive shaft on the trimmer gets stripped very easlily, thus making all of your tool useless.

I have just spend the afternoon using this string trimmer for the first time, and I'm extremely satisfied. Two months ago I moved up from my little electric Weed Eater to a Homelite gas 2 cycle string trimmer: darned thing worked twice, then wouldn't start again! When it did run, the engine was awkward to position against my body, it stunk, and was bloody loud (-neighbour guilt.) This Robi really cranked through the tough stuff today: a lower garden area with a metre of grass. The best features: easy-loading string spool, and the two-speed switch it's got. At low speed it is very easy to do fine trimming, then full speed works for the big grass. And, I think my neighbour's a lot happier!

I have been using this for about 3 weeks now & must say it has worked very well. I have a large yard (1/2 acre) with lots of grass and weeds to stay on top of. This trimmer has no problems and even does edging. A thicker line would be nice (I think it is available too), the stock line breaks easily. Reducing the speed helps this.
This trimmer is very light and even though it is corded, it is easy to get around.
You won't be disappointed with this trimmer.

EDIT: It is now 2007 and this trimmer is still going strong and works as well as day 1! Thank you Ryobi!

EDIT: We're through another season and it is 2011 and this trimmer is still my go-to guy. I am in a house with a much smaller yard now, but I am still using, and liking, this trimmer!

I can go over the technical aspects as the other reviews have done. But all I have to say, is OU,OU,OU as Tim the "Tool Man Taylor" would say. This unit has great power and just chops through thoughs weeds, grass, etc. like butter. When I first saw it, I thought it was a gas unit. It is built solid and just feels good to hold it. I just attached the bottom unit and away I went. What use to take an hour with my old trimmer (a cheap line trimmer) only took me 20 minutes with this unit. It was fun! There is nothing like using the right tool for the Job!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as an Electric Trimmer, May 26, 2004
This review is from: Ryobi 15-Inch 12-Volt Electric String Trimmer with TrimmerPlus System and Curved Shaft 132R (Lawn & Patio)
In its third summer of light duty use, the Ryobi trimmer does well dispatching the tasks of my small .3 acre yard. I just replaced the nylon cord and the task was much easier then expected. Just cut TWO 8 foot sections of line (not clear in manual) and feed right on to spool. You do NOT need to remove spool! Squirt some WD-40 to ease installation.

Watch to keep the motor ventilation clear and cool running. Not as powerful as a gas model but then the electric always starts!

You can use alternative nylon line.

5.0 out of 5 stars glad I found this one, June 23, 2000

I received my Ryobi 132R line-trimmer for father's day and found it easy to assemble, and when I got started actually trimming... I was quite happy with it! It weighs a good amount, and it feels solid, and it has a high/low power switch so if you need to really chop at some stubborn growth you can flick a switch and it will take out most grass or weeds. To get branches though I think you need an attachment. I'm excited about the other attachments available, but I don't have any yet...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok but it stinks if the lines jam, June 1, 2004

This review is from: Ryobi 15-Inch 12-Volt Electric String Trimmer with TrimmerPlus System and Curved Shaft 132R (Lawn & Patio)
I agree with everyone's assessment that this trimmer is light , easy to load and can cut through moderately thick grass. However, I have had one problem with it. If the line gets jammed or if you don't bump it to release more line fast enough, you have to unscrew the head to reload it... try feeding two lines back into the head when you are hot, sweaty and tired! I don't know if Ryobi offers an accessory that solves this problem.

A short review

I've used this for a year, and I love it. It gets the job done well, and it's easy to use. Works very well. Good ergonomics. Well balanced. Doesn't bog down with big jobs.

Be sure to wear a face shield (not just goggles) when you use it - because when you are edging with it, (and you are using it vertically to cut away grass at the edge of your lawn) it sure does kick up stones. And I use earplugs to protect my ears.

Don't bother to buy precut (costly) cutting 'string' - just buy a long reel, and cut off a 10' length, then cut in half. Save the money.

Oh yes - and be careful edging around the base of small shrubs - it is easy to cut the bark and harm the plants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love This Trimmer, July 18, 2004

This review is from: Ryobi 15-Inch 12-Volt Electric String Trimmer with TrimmerPlus System and Curved Shaft 132R (Lawn & Patio)
I am a single woman who wants NO problems with lawn equipment simply beacause I can't work on them. I was at a local hardware store and found this Ryobi 132r TrimmerPlus on the clearance table. (...) I haven't weedeated all spring or summer and it cut right thru all the tall weeds and grass like butter! I didn't have the owners manuel but was able to find it right here on this site, my next purchase will be the blower for it! Buy this trimmer, you won't be sorry!

I had inherited an older electric model with the house I just bought, and found it weak and useless for high grass. This trimmer is simply amazing--its low speed is fast enough for very thick grass, and as for high speed--well, that you just have to experience to believe. I'm very satisfied--and spending very little time trimming the lawn thanks to how fast and effective it is.
