I have used cheap $50-80 drills you can get at Walmart and Meijer and never am I satisfied with their performance. Ether the drill just doesn't have the power to get the job done or the battery dies.

My last drill before I got this one had a descent amount of power to it but the battery would die after drilling 24 holes and setting 24 decking screws. Very frustrating when you are trying to get a job done.

This drill however has a fantastic amount of power and can even drill through steel on its high gear setting in no time. But the drill is only a drill and doesn't come with a battery. I recommend the Robi P108 4AH battery. It's an $100+ battery but end the long run it is just fantastic. I have used that battery with my curricular saw and drill for hours and only run it halfway dead. And it gives this drill just a bit more UMPH! to get the job done.

Easy guideline for seeing how long a battery will last is: If you double the batteries capacity (ie. 1.2AH to 2.4AH or 2.4AH to 4AH) then you quadruple the life of the battery before for it gos dead! And the larger battery can put out more power at any time when it is needed, meaning less stress on the battery and a longer shelve life too.

Best bang for the buck, Ive needed to replace the (9yr) old worn out drill body for quite awhile and I couldn't justify spending the extra money on another battery and charger that I didn't need to have. The old and new bodies both weigh 3lbs, the biggest difference and most important were the streamlined design and shortened length and the ability to lock the chuck with a single hand grip, the old body required two hands and sometimes I couldn't do that if I was holding onto a project to fasten it after changing bits. I didn't notice more or less plastic in the design between the old vs. new, its balanced better and seems just as strong as the old one, look forward to another 9 yrs of use.

I have no regrets making this purchase. I was able to use the battery I got with the Ryobi string trimmer. It has a very good trigger that responds to even a soft squeeze. It's powerful and a pleasure to use.I am simply amazed at the speed of the charge, under 30 minutes at times and having gone through Hitachi and Craftsman drill drivers, I am happy with the feel, the torque, the weight, and its ability to hold 1/2" bits. I am ready to challenge the big boys, Milwaukee, DeWalt and Makita. I don't mean to brag but I have the best in it's class. I have had it for five months now and it has become my favorite cordless tool. I use it for the most delicate jobs and the most rugged. This is a tool for the pros.

I really like this One+ tool line at Home Depot. I purchased the original tools and batteries when I was visiting with my daughter and repairing some of her furniture. It was a drill and flashlight, and the batteries at the time were Ni-Cad. The performance was good, and I was impressed. I used the tool for a couple of years, and started adding tools as I needed them. Like I said, the tools and battery performance was good - and then they brought out the Lithium Ion batteries. They are a serious improvement over the Ni-Cads, holding their charge for a lot longer, charging up very quickly, and running the tool for a much longer time. I've had several battery drills over the years, and it always irked me that when the batteries started not holding a charge, needing replacement, that the tool was basically a throw-away. Usually the product line was "upgraded", and they no longer had the batteries at a reasonable price. I am happy to report I'm still using my drill and flashlight that I bought in Boston while visiting my daughter. The batteries have gone through three generations (Ni-Cad to Lithium-Ion, and Lithium-Ion to a newer technology Lithium-Ion+), and they have maintained their tool interface with both of the changes.

All that being said, this purchase was to supplement my tools. It was a "reconditioned" tool, and a very nice price. I have learned over the years that "reconditioned" for electronics was sometimes brand new - returned by first purchaser because of some and packing damage - or even if they're used, they have been certified by the manufacturer and are like new. This purchase was the second scenario, and the tool was still like new; no packaging or manual, but the tool was in perfect condition. I would purchase from the seller again, the tool arrived well protected and before the estimated receipt.

...needed a replacement, only I already had the battery, from the old one. Imagine my happiness when I discovered I could save a few bucks by buying only the drill. Ryobi is a good brand. My husband has been slowly renovating the house and swears by it. Almost all of our power tools are Ryobi. It seems to be the place where price meets quality.

Works great but there is no clutch LOCK function as on my older version. With it I could lock the drill on Full-ON just by flipping a lever so that I could drive very large screws with the clutch defeated and there was no clutch slippage. With this drill, no matter the clutch setting, the clutch will slip with enough resistive-torque (like when driving large or long screws in gummy pine or hardwood). Otherwise this is a good drill-driver.
