It doesn't even like 1/2 in plywood.

Alright, so going in you should already know that these aren't the greatest or highest quality. I personally only use them at home and wouldn't use them as a professional. As a pro, I use Milwaukee, Bosch, and some dewalt. These tools are just great for what I use them for. They will certainly get the job done for basic around-the-house things. I do however believe these to certainly be better than Black & Decker, and I also feel that they are better than Porter-Cable.

Batteries are alright, but are cheap to replace. These tools will last you a long time for around the house use. I have the Drill, circ saw, recip saw, flashlight, and will be getting the impact driver. The good thing about ryobi is that their tools work with either the NiCad battery or the Li Ion battery. If you get these without astronomical expectations, then you will be satisfied.

Simply put: Good tools for a cheap price. You want twice the quality, twice the run time? You would pay more than twice this price to get it, period. Tip: Charge ALL cordless tool batteries for an extended period for their first charge. I recommend overnight. Why? If your batteries do not require this, it definitely will not hurt them. If your batteries (like the ones included in this kit) require this extended charge, then you could ruin them or seriously reduce battery capacity by NOT charging them for an extended time period before the first use. Anybody complaining about [any] battery life right out of the package is either A. Not reading the instructions for their battery packs B. Not using their tools &/or batteries properly C. Not being fully honest or D. Any combination of the previous 3 choices. If you are a home user and your tools will rarely leave your home, this kit is a good value. The last reason to recommend this tool kit is because The Home Depot sells it and The Home Depot owns a majority share in the company TTI, who makes Ryobi. If you have a problem with a Ryobi tool, take it back to The Home Depot and exchange it.

I have had this equipment for many years. It works great. The only problem I had was that after about a year, the batteries would not hold a charge for even a few days, so I had to make sure the batteries were charged right before I used the drill or saw. But the drill and saw both work work fine and very well. I bought the more expensive lithium batteries to replace mine and they worked better but one of those two batteries died within 6 months. That was kind of annoying.

I have used more expensive equipment, and it did feel like higher quality tools, and the batteries charged quicker and lasted longer, but for the price, the Ryobi stuff is a good deal. My dad bought Dewalt equipment at about the same time I bought my Ryobi and his original batteries are still good. So, if I have to keep buying batteries, I will someday pay as much as if I had bought the Dewalt tools.

Anyway, this stuff is good, just not as good as more expensive stuff.

The price here, though, is way too much. You can buy these tools MUCH cheaper at Home Depot or similar.

I buy a lot of power tools from all resources and to say I was disappointed with this set is an understatement. I had wondered if the 5 & 1/2 battery saws were worthwhile as a class. And judging from this, my decision is no, they are not. Too small to handle & control and the blade is only just big enough to go through a 2x4. But only just. And the smaller motor just doesn't have what takes to do the job. And they drain batteries very quickly. You're better off using a full sized (7&1/2in) circular saw.
Several reviews blame the battery. But my experience tells me the battery is the only good component of this set. It will fit into a battery drill I got from that freight company and works just fine with a much shorter working time. But the motors in the Ryobi either take a lot of power or don't have any horsepower as the Ryobi drill simply doesn't keep up with the off brand, even when using the same battery. The saw won't even make 3 full crosscuts in soft pine 2x3. It's dead half way though the 3rd cut. It doesn't even like 1/2 in plywood.
In general, you're better off buying another battery drill and staying away from the battery saws entirely. But the battery in this set is good.

UPDATE: Nope! I was wrong. The battery isn't as good either. Although it charges in half the time, the Ryobi battery only lasts 1/4 of the working time of the other brand between charges.

I bought these to have good alternatives to my corded drill and saw and I could barely do anything with them. The saw seizes up when trying to cut through anything remotely thick and the drill is almost as bad. Don't recommend

Have had several Ryobi tools in the past, and this was a NO-BRAINER! Doubt I will ever buy another cordless. Have used the lithium batteries back home, and this one is used here in Afghanistan. Reliable, strong, and tough.
