I am a commercial electrician and I use lasers frequently. I have used Hilti's, PLS, and others while these products are good the cost and size of the Ryobi is great in comparison. I was tired of sharing the companies lasers so I bought my own, I am so glad I did. And the battery they give you comes with a charger. My only concern is the clip you use to raise and lower it, although no problems it looks like it could break.

I have a number of laser squares, plumb, etc. - some costing 3 times the price of this one, and yet this is the one I always reach for. Small, easy to use and the battery seems to last forever between charges.

As a contractor I have to use auto-leveling lasers, manual-leveling lasers are alright for occasional home use, but when time & accuracy mean money, manual-level lasers don't fly. I try having 2 of everything that's frequently used, I have the CST/Berger CL10 rotary/cross combi-laser and bought the Tek-4 as a secondary unit. I can't stress enough how convenient the auto-level and plumb dot/cross-line are in sequence and combination. The reason why 4 stars and not 5, is that the 'lock' on the tool locks the device to the housing and doesn't actually secure the pendulum, leaving it clanking around inside during transport. Aside from that the tool's battery life is excellent, the bottom plumb dot is visible when mounted to a tripod or pole (with my older Craftsman mount, other mounts may interfere). Make no mistake, this device lacks the 'beef' of a comparable Spectra, Johnson or Bosch, much of the plastic feels like it would shatter from a careless strike. All in all, a value as backup to a better laser and great for the average DIY homeowner.

The Ryobi Tek4 system is pretty interesting, and I already had the screwdriver, headphones, and LED flashlight from a Home Depot sale. This laser level looked like a good addition. I bought one, it arrived broken (rattling pieces inside, and no laser operation). I returned it (easy, thanks to Amazon's great return policy), and got another one. This time, the laser worked, but it rattled and I could see a copper screw bouncing around the inside of the laser. I checked it against a 48" box level, and it was way out of whack. I returned it (again, easy Amazon returns), and got another. This one was cracked. Another return and rebuy, and hey! I got one that works. It actually works really nicely, and the battery lasts longer than you'd expect. The charger that comes with it takes FOR-EVER to charge, and the faster one costs a pretty penny. Luckily, I've got four batteries, and there's always one on the charger.

If you can get one that works, this laser is a nifty little gadget that'll assist in your next cabinet/tile/wall install.

Price is great, Company well known, and item works really well! Don't drop it though, it might break due to an internal plumb type leveler. Just a suggestion. Otherwise great product. I told a few people of my pirchase and was surprised how many professional home remodelers use this very same item!!! Cool!

The line is visible only 15 feet, but compare to prices of other products!!! I can't complain.
Cross and points in small package, not many companys do that. This is my second Tek4 and if you take care of it, Tek4 will last a long time.

The level works but doesn't have the full 5 degrees each direction and may throw an off angle line before shutting off.
It will work ok, as long as you are aware of the limitations.
decent for the price

The "out of level" alarm and indicator did not function out of the box. It looks like this could be a useful level, and the laser lines were reasonably bright, but it's useless if you can't tell whether it's level or not. I returned the product, will find a different brand.

UPDATE -- Silly me, I bought another one. It ALSO DOESN'T WORK, but in a worse way. If the surface it's sitting on is only a little out of level, approx. between 2 and 6 degrees, the projected line will be out of level as well. And if you jiggle it, the line will move, but not necessarily to level. I now believe this is a design flaw, not any sort of manufacturing defect. Stay away from this device.

I gave this item as a gift, but was told by recipient they loved it and couldn't wait to put it to good use in the house.

I purchased this for home handyman use and it works well. As it is part of the Tek4 range, I have a common set of batteries and chargers. Used it within days of arrival and found aligning the beams on the project was a breeze, leading to a faster job and a professional looking finish.
