1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't make the grade, July 2, 2008
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
Actually, this tool looks and feels good and has all the features, but that is where it all ended. On the brand new tool that I purchased, the critical components where not aligned; the guide roller and blade shaft were not in line with each other, and this would angle the blade slightly. The blade shaft had rotational canting and could not be locked tight. The shoe alignment scale is near impossible to see. The quick blade changing mechanism is nowhere near foolproof. The cutting performance in any of the 4 settings did not compare to a 10 year old Makita jigsaw. It is just too bad that the engineering quality is not present, because this tool really looks, smells and feels good; but don't be fooled

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this saw, July 23, 2009

This saw seemed like a good purchase. However, the base CANNOT be locked into a level position, so you are endlessly cutting EVERYTHING at an angle. I really don't have any other complaints about it, but if you cannot lock the blade in at a desired cutting angle, it makes the saw 100% usless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible tool - run away, January 9, 2010

My advice is to run away from this jigsaw as fast as you can. I would give it zero stars if I could. The blade will not lock, which makes it impossible to cut a straight line, which renders the saw useless. I ruined two very expensive pieces of composite decking boards before realizing that it was the saw and not me. Based on the reviews here and elsewhere, I am not alone. Unfortunately I trusted Ryobi to make a quality product and did not do my research before the purchase.

Considering the price, this saw is so/so. I wish they had spent more on quality and less on bells and whistles. The blade was out of alignment, and difficult to correct. The bevel "lock" actually doesn't hold tight, so the shoe tilts out of square as you saw. I really don't understand the point of a Laser on a Jig saw.

1.0 out of 5 stars big disappointment, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
I can't believe how lousy this tool performs and it's still on store shelves.Everything others have stated about the blade lock is true.I've ruined my recent project because I couldn't cut a straight line with it.I wish I still had the recipe so I could get my money back, alas I bought it over a year ago and it's the first time I've used it.I haven't written to the manufacturer yet,but I will.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ruined Project, December 1, 2010
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
I built a lovely cabinet bookcase combo a few years back and have since moved. I needed to take a foot off the top to fit the lower ceiling in the new house. Because of where I was making cuts, it was ideal to use my nice new jig saw (gifted to me).

I used a clamp guide so it would cut a straight edge, but half way through the cut, I noticed the cut was a curve instead of a straight line. Unfortunately, it made the cut into the area I intended to save, not discard.

Do not buy this saw as it is unreliable. It ruined a lovely piece of furniture that my daughter was going to inherit one day. Boo Ryobi!

1.0 out of 5 stars JS550L SCROLL SAW, August 3, 2010
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
This saw is a piece of junk. It may look good, but slop in the blade holder makes it impossible to cut a straight line. The laser overwhelms any line you might try to follow, but again the slop in the blade mechanism bears no relation to where the saw goes. Out of the box, the base mechanism does not lock. It has to be disassembled, adjusted, and reassembled.
Buy a Bosch. Spend the extra money and be happy. Ryobi is a pain to deal with for any repairs or returns as well. They should not even be allowed to sell a saw that cannot cut a straight line.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless and potentially dangerous, March 16, 2010
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
After my husband ruined several pieces of expensive wood, I tried the saw myself with no better luck, then came to Amazon and read the other reviews. This saw is so bad they should pay YOU to take it. The blade is out of alignment and after a few moments it binds and heats up. Keep going and you can bend and even snap blades! We are returning it and writing a letter to the manufacturer to complain. Yeah, it's a cheap saw, but no price is cheap enough for this dangerous and useless tool.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible piece of junk, February 18, 2011
This review is from: Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit (Misc.)
This is the biggest waste of money I have ever seen. (Ryobi ZRJS550LK 5.5 Amp Orbital-Scrolling Jig Saw with Laser Kit]]It looks and feels good until you try to use it. I wish I had read reviews before I bought it. All the other reviews are absolutely correct. It is impossible to make a straight cut with this saw. The blade does not lock and wanders out of the guide. After looking more closely I saw it cannot stay in the guide as it is very loose and sloppy.
I was going to take it to a repair location but won't waste my time. There is nothing anyone can do with junk. I will write this off as a bad investment and toss it in the garbage.
