This review is from: The Ryrie NAS Study Bible Bonded Leather Burgundy Red Letter (Bonded Leather)
About the Binding & Cover
This edition is made from Premium Bonded Leather, with a Smythe sewn binding. The cover has detailed grain, rich color, and a nice leathery feel. Bonded leather is made from tiny bits of leather reformed together with latex binders to create one sold sheet of leather. Depending on the quality bonded leather is composed of 80% to 100% leather fibers. Bonded leather doesn't last as long as Genuine Leather, but does certainly out lasts other types of covers. The reinforced spine of this Bible adds to its durability. This edition lays flat while you are reading because of its high quality Smythe sewn binding. Smythe sewn binding is considered the highest quality binding, the pages are sewn and glued to the spine of the Bible. The benefits are a long lasting Bible that can be read and reread for years without falling apart. Books with Smythe sewn binding will stand up to more abuse than regular glued binding, and can be read on a flat surface. For these reasons many textbooks, picture books and Bibles that are designed to stand the tests of time use Smythe sewn binding. Smythe sewn book printing and binding gets its name from its inventor, an Irish-American named David McConnell Smythe (1833-1807). A pioneer of modern day bookbinding, Smythe took a bold leap forward over the centuries old methods of binding by producing the first technology and methods for sewing book pages to the spine to create a book of superior quality and appearance. Smythe-sewn Bibles are durable, but they may be heavier and less flexible than glued Bibles. That said if you want the best, then you want Smythe sewn binding. Size: 10.2 x 7.5 x 2 inches What's inside? The text of this edition is 9.5 pt, which is clear and easy to read. The layout of this Bible is double column format, Red letter edition, with paragraph/subject headings. Features of this edition include: 10,000 Concise Explanatory Notes, in text graphics including maps, charts, timelines and diagrams, Comprehensive book outlines in easy to read format, Expanded topical index, Wide margins for better note taking, Extensive cross references, Detailed introduction to each book, Introduction to the Old and New Testaments and Gospels, Comprehensive concordance, 16 full-color maps, 8-page historical time-line, Daily bible reading plan. This Bible is printed on high quality, the paper itself is thin, and has a semi-transparent quality. The margins are 1/2" along the border of the page, there is also limited room on the inside edges for writing. This edition has one burgundy ribbon marker, the pages are edged with gold which looks elegant with the burgundy cover. In the Front 1. Presentation Page 2. To The Reader 3. The American Standard Version was a reversion of the King James Version. Many view the New American Standard Bible as one of the most literal translations of the 20th-century. Since its completion in 1971, the New American Standard Bible has been widely embraced by many as "the most literally accurate English translation" from the original languages. In 1995, the Lockman Foundation reissued the NASB text as the NASB Updated Edition (or more often known, the Updated NASB or NASB95). Since then, it has become known simply as the "NASB" and has supplanted the 1971 text in most current printings (although the Thompson Chain Reference Bibles, the Open Bibles, and the Key Word Study Bibles still use the 1977 text for their NASB editions). About the Author Dr. Charles Caldwell Ryrie (born 1925) is a Christian writer and theologian. He graduated from Haverford College (B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., Th.D.) and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (Ph.D.). For many years he served as professor of systematic theology and dean of doctoral studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is premillennial and dispensational in his theology, though irenic in his approach. He is probably most noted as the author of the Ryrie Study Bible, available in the KJV, NASB, and NIV. My Personal Opinion The cover of this edition feels almost like genuine leather, which is very uncommon for bonded leather editions. I am impressed with the quality of this cover, its nice to see bonded leather of such quality. The study notes and other features of the Ryrie Study Bible are interesting, and useful. Its impressive the amount of information contained in this one volume. This is one of the most indepth study Bibles, I have had the opportunity to review.

I have a Ryrie Study Bible from when I first accepted Christ as my personal savior back in 1976. My now wife got saved two years later and received her Ryrie then. Our daughter just turned 13 and for her birthday we bought her this Ryrie. It is updated with many additional notes and study helps from the original. It also came with a DVD-ROM that contains many of the old standards that I have on my shelf like the Strong's, Unger's, Vine's, and many of Ryrie's books. It is absolutely great.

I just want to add to some of the great reviews that are already here.
First off, this is a great Study Bible and for that reason alone I gave it 5 stars. If you have bad eyesight like I do then you better get a magnifying glass. I can read the scripture wearing my glasses. I have a slightly harder time reading the notes at the bottom but I still can. I need a magnifying glass though for the scripture references in the side margins. The pages are pretty thin too which doesn't help when you have bad eye site because the reverse side barely shows through. Because of this I don't necessarily recommend this as a Bible for everyday use if you have bad eyesight. I still recommend it though for at home study, church Bible Study or even just to keep it with you as a second Bible for when you want access to the in depth commentary. I wish there was a large print version of this Bible but I will have to get a different Large Print Bible for every day use. The software that was supposed to come with it has been replaced. The Bible now comes with a card apparently which has an internet address to download the software from. I found this a difficult process especially since I misunderstood the instructions and I also wanted the Mac version but was not sure how to get anything other than the Windows version. I emailed Tech Support though and they sent me a link with instructions on how to do everything. My problems were solved. Another note regarding the software. I do not see any indication that this is a trial package although it would not surprise me if it was. This software is normally pretty expensive. Either way, I did not buy the Ryrie Study Bible for the software package. In conclusion: Read the other reviews to get a better idea of this Bible and it's quality. Personally I do recommended the Ryrie Study Bible for anyone who wants to study the Bible even if you have bad eyesight. Just be aware that you may want a large print Bible as well for every day use. The Software is a nice addition but even if you have problems installing it and it lasts only 30 days you'll still have a great study Bible in hand.

I have used a Ryrie study Bible for years, but I needed to send one to an inmate. It had to be soft covered. He is thrilled with the Bible and it is meeting his needs. I purchased it through Amazon as it had to be sent by a publisher, bookstore, etc.

The Ryrie NASB Study Bible Bonded Leather Burgundy- Red Letter
I was much impressed with the previous writers as to exactly what was in this particular bible since it has been updated from earlier "Ryrie" study bibles. For those who do not know Dr. Ryrie he is a gifted student of the bible and provides helpful notes that drive you through the whole bible in search of truth and pulling the whole bible together even tho the 66 book protestant bible has probably over 40 different authors. Many people think the bible contradicts itself; I admit, it does seem that way in several instances but then you have to really study the Word of God to KNOW HIM.....he is so different from humankind and sending your own Son to a cross for OTHER people's sins is a bit much to swallow.....but if a person gives this bible a serious read(w/helps from Dr. Ryrie) you may then understand part of the mind of God. Very happy with the bible which I gave to my 16 yr old grandaughter because she has no idea like most people what is contained in the book full of wisdom whether you accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior or not. I give this version a A+++++

I love my NASB Ryrie study Bible and regret the fact that I did not own this for the last 30 years! NASB is a trusted translation and I am enjoying reading it.

I have used a Ryrie Study Bible for almost 30 years and it has held up incredibly well. I purchased this Bible as a Christmas gift. The bonded leather is soft yet extremely durable. The notes and cross references make understanding the Bible much easier. Even though I have several Bibles this is the one that I use daily.

Dr. Ryrie shares years of his own studies through his study bible. He is well known and loved by his students. And he writes as he teaches and preaches. His manner is clear & concise yet inclusive. He includes a variety of educated opinions but is clear to offer his own. This is a terrific way to study the Bible.

A friend recommended this version of the Bible to me and I can say I really love it. It has everything I could ask for. Except for the weight of it, (it is quite heavy), it is an excellent version.
