Basically an enlargement of the Revell 1/72 kit with some additional details to the Flak armament and bridge "cockpit". Its basically accurate in outline and proportion, but the details are only fair. At this price, Italeri should & could have produced a more accurate product.

A big minus is the photo etched parts set, no doubt it added a big chunk to the price tag but unfortunately its poorly done and a large portion of the sheet is taken up with mine rails which are not necessary, and of dubious accuracy. The kit would be just as good without them, but cheaper. I dislike being forced to pay for etched parts that will go in the scrap heap. Also the little airplane propellor depicted in the brass window frame is a joke. Italeri's designer obviously misinterpreted the clear view spinner as a ventilation fan. (Another joke inside the wheelhouse is the oil meter gauge decal. There was no such gauge in the wheelhouse, if that's not enough "oil" is written in English!)

The vertical railing stanchions are made of plastic and are fragile. They should be made from turned brass. If you want an operating RC boat, that's something to be wary of. Chances are you'll break some of them.

All that said, if you're looking for an acceptable model of a late war armored boat in large scale, and you have the cash, its an OK kit. If you want an accurately superdetailed model up to current 1/35 scale armor standards, you have a lot of work cut out for you. The ongoing lack of adequate research material might make it a frustrating project.

I give it three stars.
