5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for college bound students., January 8, 2011

This review is from: S.C.A.M. (Paperback)
I had misgivings when I first read the description of this book. But when I recieved the copy, I changed my mind. This is a great book for any college-bound students who have to go through the SAT battery of tests.

The writing style is perfect for high school students, and the vocabulary and definitions at the bottom of each page is amazing.

As a teacher at a private school overseas, with many of our students going to colleges in the US, language can often be our main concern. This and the other books like it, are a major advantage. Kudos to Ms Harrison for a great idea.

1.0 out of 5 stars SAT Vocab isn't the only "language" in this book, January 18, 2009
This review is from: S.C.A.M. (Paperback)
SparkNotes hit a creative idea with this series: Why not incorporate SAT vocabulary words into a novel teens will read to make studying painless? Unfortunately, in her desire to make this novel "edgy" and "cool enough" for teens, the author succeeded in making it inappropriate for our household. From the first page, locker room profanity is abundantly sprinkled amongst the 25-cent SAT words.

I would recommend this book for tutors who are trying to find a vocabulary resource for older teens who need the "edgy" factor to hold their interest. However, with the exception of this very narrow audience, I do not recommend this book.
